I ordered both the recoil spring and magazaine spring from Wolf for my P6 to change out the old ones. On the Wolf websit, it was listed at P225 but I'd figured since P6 and P225 are interchangeable it should be okay.

After I received the springs, I disassemble the P6 and compare the springs. They are somewhat different. Now I question if I should replace them.

Here's a comparsion of original spring (above) and the spring from Wolf (below). The orginal sping is noticeably thicker. Is it okay to replace it with thinner spring?

Also, there appear not much compression on the original spring. I am beginning to think I can wait a bit before replacing it.

The magazine springs show even more difference. The wolf replacement spring (above) is almost 2 inches longer than the original spring (below). I tried to put the wolf spring into the magazine but it was impossible. I am beginning to wonder if they are for the same magazine.

Has anyone encounter a similar situation when replacing the P6 springs?

Thanks.

Thanks RC.

The wolf website now says 16# is the "standard" for P225 recoil spring and that's what I bought. It appears to be thinner than the original recoil spring. I'll have to mic it to get the dimension.

So it would appear the original magazine spring is closer to your dimension. The wolf P225 magazine spring is way too long.

Top gun supply has the entire spring kit for the 225 for around 25 dollars. The mags springs are probably a higher tension spring than the factory was. Top gun should have the mag spring also. They are a sig certified dealer

Bruce Gray, the ultimate SIG pistolsmith, advises against replacing the factory recoil spring (it is 3 wires twisted around each other) with a single strand spring. He has a high regard for Wolff springs and recommends them for many uses, replacing the SIG spring isn't one of them.

Sounds like an excellent advice. I'll leave it alone.

Thanks.
