How often do you USE the handgun you carry in the woods?

We live in a valley between a mountain and a river .. my neighbor has seen a 400 + pound bear in his front yard and walking down my driveway..
needless to say when .. I head in the nearby woods or at my brother in laws farm 1/2 a mile away .. I carrying my XDM E or Glock 20 in 10mm and occasionally I will shoot a few rounds, just for giggles

Not nearly enough honestly. As a cop, I figure my chances of getting into a professional use of force incident far outweigh getting into a scuffle in the woods with a bear/cat so my training time leans heavily toward 9mm/5.56.

That being said I do shoot the little Colt pretty well and enjoy carrying it in the woods. IMG_8664.jpeg

I try to get to the range once a week with my carry / wood's revolver: semi auto's. As for being able to jump into a hunting position, I wish. WMA's in north central Ark. are a bit of a drive. Squizzer season is off to a good start this year.

YOU HAD ME FOOLED! I was like… that’s a huge Fukashmi Squeezer!

and ways… I carry a 4” with 1” compensated S&W .460

But but will be down grading to a 10mm Glock if we can get rid of out mag ban. If not, carry 2 mags.

SW M-69 for deer hunting and general woods walks where targets are under 50 yards. SW500 6 1/2” with 300FTX at 1500 for up to 75 when I’m in practice, otherwise it’s 50Y also. Both have delta points, and I wear ear protection as even a slight chance of making bad tinnitus even worse is not worth the finest 12 point buck out there.

There is a long-ongoing thread in "revolvers" about which revolver you carry in the woods. Looking at some of the answers, I wondered if many responders actually USE the guns they carry.

I'll start off -- I usually carry a Colt Woodsman (made in 1938) and I live in the woods -- I step out my door and I'm hunting. Squirrel season in the Ozarks runs from mid-May to the end of February, so most of the time if I see a squirrel, I can take him.

I'll usually take a squirrel every few days just mooching around, not really hunting.

Let's hear from the rest of you.

In my part of the country I got a few critters that might need shot if attacked. I live in Black Hills country. Three biggest threats to me while I am in the mountains are :
1. Mt Lion
2. Black Bear
3. Bison
I carry my Ruger Redhawk 5.5in 357 Magnum loaded with 180 gr SWC
Or my Super Blackhawk 5.5 bbl 44 Magnum loaded with 240 gr SWC
From time to time I have carried my Ruger 5.5 Single Six with the 22 WMR ammo.
That's usually when I am not deep in the forest. Great varmint plinker.
