Hey guys,
This is a question I'm kind of curious about. Generally, we try to clean guns right after we shoot. However, due to school and my dad working, sometimes we aren't able to for a couple of days.
So how soon do you all clean your guns after you shoot?

I never clean afterward. I throw them in the safe and get to them when I can. Sometimes it's days, sometimes it's weeks. I've got pistols that I haven't cleaned for ohhh...years. Doesn't hurt them a bit and they still go bang when I pull the trigger...and no, this isn't neglect.

Unless I'm shooting corrosive ammunition, I get to cleaning when I get to it. When I do clean my guns, it's usually just a matter of wiping them down and running a bore snake through. I'm not a benchrest shooter and don't have much use for guns that must be spotless to run right.

the only time i clean them is after i do work on them........other than that theres no need.

Clean them? Eventually.

Bore snake here, a wipe down there... In truth they get a good solid cleaning maybe once a year for the most part.

I use one of those Rig grease sheepskin things after shooting most of the time.

In a day or two, but they are wiped down immediately upon getting home.

Water and salts from sweat are not kind to bluing, and firing the gun removes any oil film that might have been in the bore (or near the muzzle on the slide).

depends on what ones i shot and how tired i am after a range day
(my range days are 4-6 hours) i don't go to shoot a box and go home.

if it is a 22 it might take 1-4 weeks to get to clean it, if it is my carry gun 1-3 days.

+100 on the bore snake

I always clean after each range session (I put ~500-600 rounds through each gun) but that's mainly because I suffer from OCD and I'm bored a lot lol.

If I'm shootin Corrosive ammo I clean them within 24 hours. If I'm not shooting corrosive ammo, then I clean the weapons usually within a week or so.

I tend to do it the same day if I do clean the guns after a shoot. Otherwise it doesn't get done. This has everything to do with personal habits and nothing to do with the guns.

FREQUENCY OF CLEANING!
Shotgun: Every 200 rounds or so, alternately every 3 months whenever the round count is above 0.
Rifle: Well it's a .22lr bolt action so that thing never gets cleaned unless it starts getting finnicky. So in other words... I cleaned when I got it home a year ago and it's seen the oil can about twice since, somewhere between 1000 and 1500 rounds down it now and I got it used.
Pistol: Got a brand new 22lr semi-auto pistol, haven't shot it yet. I will have to get back to you on my cleaning routine. My friend however has a Glock with about 1000 rounds through it since it's last cleaning and it's starting to jam so lets say 900-1100 rounds for pistols.

Went to the range yesterday and shot 5 or 6 different pistols.
The only one that has been cleaned is a 44/40 that I load with black powder.
The others will get cleaned when I get around to it.
Usually just a bore snake and a wipe down. Maybe a detail clean and waxing once a year or so.

.22s, almost never.
Everything else, when I get to it.
I'll take Gun Scrubber to the actions of autos every now and then.
After deer season is over I give the rifles a good cleaning before putting them away.

To answer THe Dove's question: "What is OCD".
It stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
It means you're obsessed with doing something.
I had to answer that, it was bugging me.

I usually give the outside a wipe down after each trip to the range and a detailed cleaning after about 3-4 trips to the range.

Right after I get home. The Marine Corps taught me right. Ironically my weapons function flawlessly if there are not ammo issues.

Within 1 hour I shower (if possible) to remove residue. Within 24 hours I clean my guns. The longest I've ever gone was about 72 hours.

I pretty much only clean them if I've shot corrosive ammo or I had issues with them that day. Normally a quick wipe down and a Bore Snake run through, then back in the safe.

The only exceptions are my carry guns, I clean them immediately afterwards but I rarely shoot them, having duplicates to use for practice sessions.

How soon do you clean your gun?

I was going to the range 2-3 times a week shooting different guns for testing reloads. Between sessions I was cleaning and shooting and doing little else. I've settled to preparing my loads throughout the week, shooting on Friday afternoon after work, and then settling down sometime on the weekend and giving a good, detailed cleaning to each from start to finish. Even though some are recommended to not be cleaned frequently I clean it for another reason.

My eyeballs and my health are more important than bragging about having a seldom cleaned gun. I do it in order to inspect it for damages, weak springs, broken parts, light fractures that haven't quite broken yet, signs of unusal wear, etc.,. Then, if I put them up for a month or two in order to do other things I know that when I hit the range or the urge to hunt strikes me I am starting out with a clean machine.
