How to adjust the 10/22 sights?

I'm wondering how to adjust the 10/22 sights for windage? The manual says to "tap the sight base with a brass rod"(referring to the rear sight). So I'm wondering, what do they mean by "the rear sight base"? I don't want to tap something I shouldn't. Pictures, especially with arrows or the like clearly showing what the base is, would be especially appreciated. Thanks!

Red Dot

I'm not sure how to adjust the irons, but for 30 bucks you can get a red dot sight where it's easy to adjust, and you'll be dead on.

I really really really love my 10/22. Got it for my daughter, and the guy at the store laughed at me, saying I'll use it alot more than her, and I have.

The red dot really adds to the rifle. Carry spare batteries if you get one, but I'm not joking at 50 yards you'll take coke cans easy.

The sight is dovetailed into the barrel.

Do just like they say and tap the base of the sight one way or the other so it slides in the dovetail.

If you need pictures & arrows to understand that, you should maybe take it to a gunsmith & have him do it.

Right, but I'm confused what they're referring to when they say "the base".

I already have a scope on it, but I can see the sights under the mount, so I figure if I can get the sights adjusted, I could use the sights or the scope.

There are three pieces to the rear sight. The metal plate with the notch for elevation adjustment, the piece that it screws to, and the base, which the upper two pieces hinge on that sits in the dovetail.

You use a small brass rod and tap(gently) on the side of the lower piece that slides in the dovetail cut in the barrel. DO NOT try to tap on the pieces that are above the hinge.
