Probably with a Scotchbrite pad. You will find them at an auto parts or body shop supplier in different grits. Don't try sandpaper if you've never done this before. If your scratch is on one of the flat sides of the frame or slide you can usually rub it out and blend it in but you'll have to figure out which grit to use and blend it in with long straight strokes from one end of the part to the other. If you stop in the middle or change directions you'll still be able to see your work. Get some pads and practice on a peice of metal that you don't care about. You can do this.
I start with a scotchbrite pad, finish with some polish and a rag. I used some plastic polish since that's what I had last time, worked great.
Just bear in mind you'll end with a mirror finish, so if you had any sort of texture going on before, it may come out looking worse.
If you can take off the barrel it will be very easy to chuck up and repolish. But if not....use the finest pad you can find!!! material is easily taken off, BUT much harder to put back on. As a kid needing money in the 70's my father would have me polish almost every barrel he chambered...Drail is 100% right you can do this.
Scotchbrite pad. The different grits are color coded. Maroon, light gray, and white are the ones useful for stainless guns. Some woodworking supply places sell variety packs. In my experience, the light gray ends up with the finish closest to most factory stainless guns. It's supposed to be equivalent to #0000 steel wool.
Excellent glad to hear that you haven't noticed any rust from any embedded steel in the stainless steel surface which can when it gets the chance show rust. As long as there is a trace of oil and it isn't subjected to sweat or other corrosive will look great.
The use of Scotch Brite pads will avoid this from happening.
