I had the pleasure today of doing a FTF purchase of an East German Makarov from a fellow High Roader. It followed a short negotiation via PM, Email and the telephone. Now, I'm not here to brag about my haggling skills, though once in Tijuana I did beat a Mexican out of a $10 blanket by low-balling him and some fast talk and got it for $12.

Here's the deal. Say a guy wants $400 for a pistol and throws in extra stuff you don't really need...like a spare Makawrap grip, couple of magazines, extra recoil spring, 200 rounds of ammo and even the red t-shirt he used for the photo back-drop. You offer him $300 flat, like there's no wiggle room for a counter offer. And you tell him oh-by-the-way, "I'll give you $95 for the extra stuff...you got no use for it."

Bingo! ~25% savings. Even my wife can appreciate a bargain. And the t-shirt is an "M" and appears to be brand new ...it's her lucky day.

Thanks, fiVe.

So...

Buying a $10.00 blanket for $12.00 is an example of your haggling expertise? And saving 5.00 on the other deal?

~ 25% savings??

Okay, even with the new math, I can't figure out how you save 25% if you pay 300 bucks for the gun and $95 for other stuff. That totals $395 towards the asking price of $400....

Never mind.

Listen, Harry, I can get you a great deal on some ocean front property in Wyoming.

The post was about how to save 25% on a handgun. ;)

Ohhhh, NOW I get it...

He's saying his wife is more gullible than we are.

Gullible?

I speak only for myself here, but I am at least as gullible as Harry's wife. Probably more. Having bought a few $10 Mexican blankets for $12 myself, I should have caught on much earlier.

Clever post.

Great post!!! I, too, appreciated the humor injection into my very trying work week.

Okay,

I guess my sense of humor stayed in bed this morning, it has been a long week. I'm sure when I look at it tomorrow it will be funny as hell. I do normally have a good sense of humor, especially the self depricating type.

Sorry if I offended anyone's sensibilities.

hey... I went to Tijuana once and overpaid for something there also
