Hello, everyone. Thanks to everybody who responded to my earlier thread. I believe that I’m gonna purchase the 3inch sub-Compact .40 Cal Springfield XD as soon as my tax money comes in.

My question is this: How should I conceal it when I finally get my CC certification? I saw several ankle holsters here: https://secure.fobusholster.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=25
Do yall think that ankle carry is realistic for an XD? Those of you who do carry one of these, how do you strap them on?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Realistically, the XD subcompact is kind of too fat for carry on the ankle. It can be done ... but not easily. You'll probably end up leaving it at home if that's how you're planning to carry it when you carry.

Ankle holsters are good for back up guns, and good for some people in some situations. In particular, if you work in a sit-down environment (eg office work or driving), an ankle holster can be a godsend. You won't be able to draw while running away, an unfortunate option to give up, but again, if you spend a lot of time sitting down it might be just the ticket for you. Even then, the draw is often slow. And it is not as easily concealed as it seems at first glance -- you'll have to buy your pants a tiny bit longer than you do now, and you'll have to practice ways to sit that keep your ankles covered all the time. Not impossible, just don't think it's a panacea.

You're better off looking for carry options on the waist -- a holster carried in the waistband, on the waistband, or in the small of the back. Or you might consider a belly band, especially if clothing is a big limitation for you.

Thanks for the quick reply. Clothing is somewhat of a limitation right now, as I'm a college student and own pretty standard street clothes. (jeans and t-shirts) When I graduate, I'll be getting a job that requires a suit with jacket most likely, and so it'l be much easier to conceal a firearm that way.

What is the "belly band" that you mentioned and how does it work? Most of my t-shirts are long and go down past my waist to the middle of my pockets. What about ankle holstering a Kahr gun like the MK 40 or 9?

Ankle carry is great, if you don't mind getting shot in the rump, or the top of the head, while you're drawing.

How fast can you reach your ankle, in an emergency, and under pressure?

Now.... is this really where you want to stash the one piece of equipment that you may need the most?

Think about it. ;)

I carry my 4" XD in a High Noon Holsters Tail Gunner. A t-shirt or other light cotton shirt conceals it just fine. (The success of that probably depends on your size, however. But it would be easier with the subcompact.)

I used to carry mine IWB, on a belt slide holster or just put it in my pocket....(I have baggy jeans)

Belly bands/ankle holsters suck.

Belly band...uncomfortable and REAL hot.

Ankle holster....sometime the gun falls out (seen it happen) sometimes the gun is in plain view and everyone but you sees it (it's happened) it's always hard to get to and lastly the XD is a little heavy for ankle carry.

Ruger P345 Semi-Auto

New user here.....

I am not sure if I am posting this correctly or not. However, I have a question. I was thinkin about buyin the Ruger P345 Semi-Auto .45 and I have not actually seen it in person yet. My question is, have any of you actualyl seen one first hand? I would like to conceal with an ankle holster but I am not sure if that would work or not. Is it too bulky? Again, I have not seen one first hand so I cant say. If you do know of any ankle holsters online, please provide me with a website, I'd appreciate it. Thanks !

I spent 45-55 bucks on a ankle holster for my J-frame S&W. Once it fell into my boot while I was walking, if I would have had on shoes, it would have fallen out in the hallway at work. Yea, it sit's in a drawer now, wish I had the $ back.

fearit311, start a new thread. To answer your question, the guns too big and heavy for ankle carry.

ps, I like that DeSanti holster.

forget the ankle rig

and get a good IWB or even yet a smartcarry. Perfect for office use with suits.
