How to deal with sweat damaging your carry weapon?

Salt gets on CCW type [and other] firearms by handling 'em with frech fry fingers

interesting. I rarely handle my carry gun. Just carry it.

rWt, I was worried about using brake cleaner but Old Fuff told me to and damn if it didn't work perfectly

Thanks.

Do you then have to remove the brake cleaner residue with anything before putting on Eezox, or is it good to go?

there is no residue. It seems to dissolve the oil. Take off the grips and give it a little spray. Wipe with a clean cloth. Simple.

I then use a high quality car wax and put a couple of coats on it. Never used Eezox but please report back and let us know how it works

Guillermo summed it up. There are some brake cleaners that seem to be hygroscopic - maybe from rapid evaporation/cooling/sweating, but I have settled on Prestone Brake Cleaner. It degreases extremely well, evaporates quickly and I use it a lot. No particularly toxic ingredients, though I have problems with extra fingers and toes growing out of my hands & feet. Other than that it seems to be pretty inocuous... :what:

my father always wanted a 5 foot tail with a vise grip on the end. If only he had used Prestone Brake Cleaner...

btw, I always thought that was strange until I realized how often I need an extra hand

I design and make my own holsters. I have a leather backing on my holsters that prevents any part of the gun touching the body, and I water-proof that backing with Sno-Seal or Mink Oil.

The backing also makes the holster more comfortable, spreading out the pressure and prevening sharp angles from digging into your hide. And, since I carry an M1911, it also provides a place to sew on a "button" or leather cam that positively engages the safety lock and keeps it on safe.

Don't think he had the vise grip, but check out Hunter Thompson in "Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas."

Like the Sno-Seal (beeswax) for leather next to my sweaty torso, but Mink Oil turned a new pair of nice, soft demi-boots from Eddie Bauer into the sweat-socks nightmare from olfactory hades some years back. Had to send them to the EPA for disposal. A little may be fine to soften leather, but more makes them smell like minks, les petites cousins de Pepe Le Pew... :barf:
