Zund-

You actually keep jennings in the catagory of something to use for self defense? :scrutiny:

Justin came out with my reason quite nicely and saved me some typing, thanks justin

For Cryin out loud We are talking about a Jennings right? Forged from BeerCanium and less than a full step up from a Sat. Night Special? Incapable of Locking open the chambers to verify no brass no ammo? Tooth pick firing pins that snap if you blink at them wrong? I speak from experience with them by the way not just High nosed attitude.
Beat it to a pulp with a mall, and find a torch to hammer the barrel into a nice little Utility blade and save someone the fear fo not knowing if it will work when they need it.

Like Clemenza said "Leave the gun take the canolli"

I'd rather have it disposed of than even giving it away, I think. I'd feel bad if the gun KB'd on someone I gave it to. I don't feel save using it and I certainly wouldn't feel safe having someone else use it either.

DONATE IT!

Why don't you donate it to a local gun rights group who can then turn it in at the next gun 'buy back' and get $50, $100 or more from left-wing kooks who are willing to spend a lot to get a little junk off the streets!

We did it five years ago here in Champaign, IL. Took 16 non-working pieces of junk up to Joliet and collected $800 cash for gun rights activities.

It was hard keeping a straight face as they counted $50 bills into my palm that morning.

The bayous in LA are all full up? Remind me to arrange for another Katrina.

Zund, I think he meant that he wouldn't want to pawn off a substandard firearm that would likely fail to function when some poor soul needed it most.
Thats what I figured he meant ... still someone who can only afford a Jennings is not going to be able to come up with the scratch for a Glock and aren't likely to know what a Makarov is.

The whole "A Jennings in the hand beats a Glock in the gunshop case" thinking is what I'm going on here.

Most of us here in the shooting community are snobs ... I'd never own a Jennings and would likely turn down a free one. However for someone who can't afford better it might save their life (and considering the fact that most self defensive uses of a firearm don't result in the would-be victim's weapon even being discharged, a Jennings is clearly better than harsh language).

I'm tempted to say "just send the darn thing to me!" But I've never heard of Jennings, and everyone seems to think they're crap... But I'm just a poor college student.

Zund-
They'ed eb better with a baseball bat. At least that way they can plan around it and it'll work. I wouldn't give someone something to plan their self defense on that is such a piece of garbage.

Hell, I'd take it. I'd probably render it inoperable and use it as a prop- I run a small prop weapons rental business, and sometimes people tell me that all the stuff I have looks too nice. Case in point, last month someone was making a bank teller training video, and needed guns for a staged holdup. A jennings would be perfect for that, right?

Don't they have those stupid buybacks there? Boston had one with non-police acceptance places, and they would give a $200 giftcard for Target for each one.

They didn't even check state ID. I know of several people who put together looks-functional junkers out of cheap parts piles and got gift cards. :D

This is funny as I had a friend give me a NIB Jennings 9mm since he knew I was 'into' guns. He said it he took it apart and something broke, firing pin rolling around in the box. I'd never heard of a Jennings before so got home and googled it. Page after page of lawsuit after lawsuit against the Jenning company. Not good... looks like they went bankrupt and their tooling was bought by the Jimenez co. Now I've seen some of those Jimenez sat nite specials at the pawn shops and it all came together.
So I took it to a local gun shop to see if they wanted to melt it down or something and they broke out their crosses, wooden stakes and garlic necklaces.
So here I am holding this thing like a hot potato wondering what to do with it. Might try using it for target practice or perhaps a custom frame melt experiment or art project, who knows.
Thx though for the gun buy back tip, I'll see if there are any libs who will pay the big bucks for the lil darling lol. :D

I remember hearing about Brandon and his family member who couldn't remember 4 rules, it's a shame when a ND hurts or kills.

If all you can afford is a Jennings, it's better to have one and be responsible than not have a gun.

whoops, off topic.

Keep it. Never trade a gun, junk or not to the anti's for money. That helps their cause of how soooo many unwanted guns got aborted before they could kill someone. It's a handgun, not a truck, if it won't fit in the safe buy another safe, and fill it with more guns too.

Find a school, wiat for some kid with baggy pants to walk out, and sell it to him. Trust me, you'll get more than it is worth.

On a serious note, I agree that you should find a worthy cause to give it to. I'd rather some young person get a gun on the cheap and have a means of protection than give an anti a piece of propoganda.

Its a Jennings!! No need to destroy it. Just shoot it a few times and it'll fall apart on its own.
