How to remove brass rub on slide?

I have a brass streak on the rear of a Sig P228 slide that I'd like to remove.

Sigs have that easily marked Nitron finish and I'm concerned that anything I use will remove that finish and end up looking much worse.

Any ideas as to how best to remove it appreciated.

Brass is mostly copper, so use a copper bore cleaner such as:

Sweet's 7.62 Bore Cleaning Solvent

Ammonia is the active ingredient; if you don't have any bore cleaner, you could try the houshold type stuff.

I've found that, in some cases, a pencil eraser works well to remove brass marks.

Careful with the eraser - it can contain grit, and speaking from experience, it can lighten finish on its own. I prefer to use solvents; even Hoppes #9 will do it, if slowly. Some of them are more caustic than others, so be careful on finishes other than blued/parked/stainless steel.
