How to store pistols in a safe

I'm considering buying a couple of new guns in the distant future to replace those lost at sea and was wondering how I would store those in a safe to keep them out of the way and off the shelves.

I remember reading something about what I'm looking for a while back, but can't find it on here, it was like pegs or something, maybe mesh, I don't really remember.
 
or be cheap like me, this is a pepsi bottle holder that they usually leave at local 7-11's and other quickie marts. i just cut it in half and now it holds 6 hand guns sitting up.

and it cost me nothing but 5 minutes with a hack saw to cut it in half.

I think it was here on THR that someone showed a dish rack that worked well
 
Hi-point C9 no holster
S&W Sigma 40VE in grandfather oak kydex holster that i carry every day
beretta M948 leather/suede holster
H&R M622 faux leather holster i made
Rossi M461 in Uncle Mikes suede holster.

dont know what leather would be bad since they make carry holsters in leather.
 
Is that pistol stored in a leather holster? Isn't that a big no-no?

some leathers ( most i believe) are tanned in chemicals that can be bad for metal finishes. so yes. its possibly a no no.
 
Walmart - $4.00 ea.

I think they are dishracks of some type.
Walmart - $4.00 ea., 8 slots & rubber coated, in housewares.
Can't put large frame (S&W N's) next to each other tho, the cylinders are too fat.

my brothers ruger single six has been stored in it leather holster for more than 10 years in my safe with no ill effects. BUT, the gun comes out every so often, gets wiped down with oil when i put it back, AND he oiled the leather with gun oil when he bought it. he took a rag, saturated it with gun oil, and wiped down the entire holster. inside and out. i am sure it was for the reason of rust prevention of the pistol. so far, so good. and the leather has suffered no ill effects yet either. i reall doubt it ever will.
 
nice Bruce..!! I'll have to check Wal-Mart for those. Any chance I could get a measurement on one.?
 
 
I've got a few in oven mitts, just slip in the pistol and lean on the wall. Works pretty good, I don't have a lot of room.
 
For the record, I hate posts like this because it makes me feel the need to buy more guns, so that I have this type of problem. :banghead:

I've gotten some of those neodymium magnets that come with a little hook and hang my pistols in their holsters from the roof and doors of my gun cabinet; I’ve never noticed any ill effects from storing them in their holsters even though some are milsurp leather, even in my very humid part of the US.

However, I do regularly oil them every quarter and have a goldenrod and rechargeable desiccant pack in the cabinet. Those magnets have absolutely freed up a tremendous amount of space, however, they do give a cluttered appearance to the interior of my storage space.

Thanks, not my idea tho. Picked it up around the net.

Footprint is 13" x 6" & 4" high, 8 slots, each slot is approx. 2" wide. Fairly sturdy/stable and a very cheap fix.
There are two shown on the shelf, I figure I've maybe got room for two more, when I need them.

You guys would want to kick my ass if you saw the way I had them stacked. I just figure that unless there is vibration,metal on metal contact wont hurt:confused:
 
My P95 sits in the holder for remote controls on the side of my couch... is that a problem? lol. I don't have kids or anything like that so its nice and convenient!
 
I must be the only person remaining who stores them in the plastic cases they came with. Each one has been sharpied or has a printed label saying what it is, so when I go shooting, I can see which one I want to bring. I can stack the boxes vertically and so can store more that way. I don't have to waste space storing empty boxes some place since I want to keep every accessory that comes with any pistol I buy.

Yes the cases have foam in them. But if you use your pistol and oil them when you're finished, you won't have a problem because the foam will store a thin layer of oil against the pistol.

A must for any safe is a goldenrod or two to keep the moisture out.
 
I put mine betweent the mattresses...

J/k, I need to look at one of those racks next time the wife forces me to go to ""The Walmart""...

Thanks for the ideas, need to find something that will fit the MAC-10s too....

I have noticed that some oils will degrade foam over a period of time. The foam in one of my rifle cases started to disintergrate due to oil exposure.
