I have a 870 wing master barrel that was taken of a gun back in the middle 90’s. I wanted to sell this but I want to make sure what it is before I sell it. I don’t have any 870’s to try it out on. The only markings that stand out to me is a star before the 20ga stamping on the barrel. The barrel in question is a 20” smooth bore with riffled sights.
Thanks
Adam

You can check to see if a quarter will fit through the magazine lug. If it will, then I believe its for a Standard 20 (a 20 built on a 12 frame) and not a light 20.

Quarter passing

Those were my thoughts but a quarter will not pass and it is also not stamped a light weight on the barrel. That’s where I keep getting confused.
Thanks
Adam

I just took a look at my 20ga 870. It's of recent manufacture and definitely a lightweight gun. It is just marked 20ga 2 3/4 or 3" shells. I also have a 15yo 1100 20ga that is marked LT-20 on the barrel. I wish I could be more help.

If I had my calipre at home, I would measure my barrel for you. It's at work so if you don't find out, I can measure tomorrow evening.

If it is on an 870, and the quarter will not go thru the magazine ring, it is a lightweight barrel, meaning it goes with the LW (lightweight sized) receiver 870. This is not to be confused with a light contour barrel, which, as far as I am aware, are only made in 12 gauge.
