A local shop has a Taylor Smokewagon and a Gunfighter. Both in 5.5 inch.
I tend to like SAA style guns for some unexplainable reason. Mostly Colts and USFAs. In the past I owned a couple AWAs but did not care for the quality.

Anyway,,,, How do i tell if the Smokewagon is a Deluxe Version or just the standard version ???

Also how does the Gunfighter stack up in comparison???

I just purchased the Runnin' Iron by Taylors.
The difference from the Smokewagon is the with of the hammer. It is wider on the Runnin' Iron.

It is my understanding that the Gunfighter has a larger handle and is easier to grip with large hands.

Seems like everything on it functions real smooth, but I have not shot it yet. Only practiced with snap caps.

The deluxe versions of their guns are tuned at their place to be really smooth in operation.

To see what I'm talking about.

The Smoke Wagon Deluxe will run about $100 more than the standard model (well worth it in my opinion), and it should say "Deluxe" on the end of the box. I think the Runnin' Iron is a totally different gun, but it it tuned similar to the Deluxe Smoke Wagon. The Runnin' Iron was set up for use on horseback.

Oh I forgot to answer this.

I bought a SMOKEWAGON DELUXE.

The Deluxe version will have { DE } after the model number on the trigger guard tag. Like my new one said 4110DE.

But if you do not see the box, and there was no factory tag tied to the gun, the fastest way to tell is to pull out the cylinder pin and look at it. The Deluxe versions have had the cylinder pin polished and left in the white. At least the part that runs through the cylinder itself.

Also I called Taylor and they said they could tell me if I had the serial number.

The other changes are internal and not easy to see. I managed to buy mine for the price of a regular Smoke wagon.
