How'd they get so good?

Unisaw & Pilot,

I am always willing to learn, and never afraid nor ashamed to admit when I am wrong.

Please educate me on how I am wrong, regarding Carlos Hathcock, in the context of the original post. I made my post after reading the link regarding Jelly Bryce, but even so, in the context of the OP, and the men discussed following it, again, we're talking about men who are staring into the face of death at the time of the exploits for which they are known.

Regardless of other incidents, Hathcock is famous for being a sniper; therefore, again, famous for performing his duties, from a distance.

I just think that in discussing the exploits of Musashi, Bowie, Bryce, Cirillo,
et al, Hathcock is not in this same category of warrior.

Some people are good at one thing and not another.

A person can be trained but they have to have some natural born talent or ability to be very good.

Shooting has allot of factors that make a person a good shot or not. I am very lucky in that I am looking a 40 and I still have 20/10 with both eyes and 20/10 and 20/15 individually. I am not a good shot with a scoped rifle off hand. I am not very steady for very long but on a quick shot with good open sights I am pretty good. I can hit better with my 1863 Shiloh off hand at 100 yards then most people with a scoped modern rifle.

With that being said I can't hit a baseball to save my rear end. Lord knows I can't dance.

When it comes to a hero. Most people don't know that have it in them till they are faced with a situation and you can't tell by looking at them. Look at Audie Murphy. Does he look like a person that would be the most decorated member, past or present, of the US Army.
