Hello all I wanted to share with you a gift that was given to me yesterday, a brand new all black Phoenix Arms HP22a .22lr pistol. Had no idea at all that anyone would ever possibly get me a firearm for a gift but of all people my cousin got it for me. I recently helped her get her first firearm after she was broken in on last week. We went back and forth between several different ones and she settled on a smith bodyguard 380, took her out and showed her how to clean it, load it and shoot it as well as what ammo to use for SD (speer gold dots run good in it). Yesterday she shows up at my house with a little black and silver box and contained inside was the hp22a brand new.

Took it out in the hills today and tested it out with some cci blazer .22lr ammo, later found out it calls for standard velocity not high velocity so ill be changing ammo the next purchase but hey 3.99 a box and its only just a bit over the recommended speed (PA suggested 1150fps the blazer is 1215 according to the box)

We shot 100 rounds through it with not one single failure at all, granted I cleaned it and oiled it last night but still, very accurate for a 3" barrel and they make a 5" barrel for it. She also got it at a really good price, i looked on one about a month ago and it was 159.00 with the 3" barrel. She got it at a gun show yesterday for 109.00 +tax said it was my christmas gift :D im happy.

Mind you its not intended for ccw but with some slight mods to the safety it would work good for someone who was recoil sensitive. Def. a good one for the truck or boat though, loaded with some cci snake shot, make a dang good trail/hiking gun, I love it.

Anyone else out there got one or shot one also any comments let me know, heres some pics of it

Decent guns, for the money. Feed them good quality ammo and they work well. The longer barrel will help with accuracy and muzzle velocity. Basically, they're one of the better options in the $150 range.

Just found out grabagun.com has the 5" barrel kit with extra mag /w pinky extention for 25 bux, cheaper then phoenix directly. hello payday gotta order that. Also going to pick up some cci standard velocity on payday dont wanna hurt it shooting high velocity.

Any idea on subsonic ammo on these, would it cycle it and shoot good, book said 1050/1150 FPS is recommended.

I was quite pleasantly surprised with mine as well. Nice, crisp trigger, and well-balanced in the hand. Good shooter with MiniMags (the only ammo I've run through mine.)

The frames have been known to crack after thousands of rounds near the mag well, which does not affect function. Most Phoenix owners who have sent them back when this has happened for warranty repair have reported simply receiving a new gun from them. That's good CS.

The HP-22 can't handle high-velocity 22 ammo?! That's remarkable. The so-called "standard velocity" stuff can be hard to find and expensive when you do find it...or at least it was a couple of years ago, when I last looked for it. Maybe that was just the general 22 ammo famine at the time.

Still, it amazes me that anyone would make a 22 now that can't take high-velocity. That is far more the norm than standard velocity now.

I have worn 3 out. Love those guns. They do start wearing the rails on the slide pretty bad so make sure you keep the slide lubed to minimize that.

I picked one up for my wife. After 23 years of marriage she FINALLY wanted to learn to shoot. We liked it so well I went back to the same dealer and picked up another one for my teen aged daughter. The pistols are even consecutive serial numbers.we love them.

Congrats on a fine gift. I have a couple of these and have learned a little about them. Removing the barrel from the frame can be a little difficult, and the retainer that holds it on can be subject to damage from that. Mainly, I found that when the disconnector impacts the trigger bar, the sharp corners on them can slightly dent both of them, making them bind up and preventing the trigger from resetting. Giving the pistol a sound clout with the off hand may jolt things loose. This is not a favored procedure at a formal range. *Bang*clout*Bang*clout....."Sir, please cease fire and put your weaponlike thing on the bench." Putting a slight radius on the offending areas will help this a lot. Also, I have fixed the pesky slide safety in place with a dab of silicone sealer. All at your own discretion of course. It still has plenty of safety gadgets remaining. Somewhere on this site are pictures of the trigger bar/disconnector situation.

Love mine. Don't shoot it like I use to, but using the longer barrel I bought with the gun it's pretty accurate. Not as accurate as my Ruger Mk II but a good gun when hiking. Remington sub-sonic work great in mine.

Their a pretty good little pistol for the money and the 5" is really accurate. I would have been happy with it Even more so if she had bought me a new 1911 Colt.

Hey all, back after some internet issues. I got to take it out and shoot it a bit last week, ran 100 more rounds of cci blazers through it, was the lowest fps i could find, still high velocity but on the lower side (1215fps). I love this pistol, ran flawlessly. Standard velocity is difficult to fine here but subsonic isnt so im gonna try some of those next payday.

I am going to remove the safety mag disconnect and make it to where you can rack the slide without the mag and might end up ccw'ing this little gem when its not cold outside. Im guessing that with 10 cci mini mags it would make for a really bad day if I had to use it, plus its so light on recoil that it would be much easier to hit with.

Wife is loving it too, she gun shy so no recoil is a very big plus, might end up convincing her to carry one.
