I need some help here. Im loading 1 1/4oz Hevi over BP products recommended load of 23.5 grains of Longshot, and 2 other trial loads of 25 and 27.5 grains. 23.5 Grains gets me bloopers, no velocity and a lot of unburned powder flakes. 25grains less so, and 27.5 is clean but still not alot of velocity. All components are within recipe spec per BP's manual. I have tried roll crimping and 6 point fold, and the fold seems to get cleaner burn, as I assume it gives more resistance. Any ideas?

Longshot is rather slow. I like it, but in my humble experience it works best with heavy loads of lead shot in a longer barrel. Heavier loads accelerate more slowly, which give plenty of time in the barrel for slow powders to burn completely while continually increasing pressure as the wad approaches the muzzle. Only at the muzzle does the shot eventually achieve its highest velocity.

So I would conjecture (and this is just a guess) that a max load of slow powder, or a modest load of faster powder, will get you the velocity you seek. HOWEVER, don't forget to pattern it on a big piece of paper. You can't hit anything with a crappy pattern, no matter what powder you use or velocity you achieve.

Even though it's a reloading issue, you might step over to Shotguns to get more feedback.

Not a whole lot back from BP. They are scratching their heads. They are going to do another load test and verify and call me back but they don't see why anything should be going south.
