what do you think of HS6 or WIN WSF for higher powered loads?Looking for a good all around game load and what number of shot for pheasants?
also on a different question,I am new at this and was loading federal plastic hulls with the fiber basewad. The load was supposed to be 21 gr of clays, well I loaded 4 boxes of #9 shot,1oz with 19.1 grains. Do you think they would be dangerous to shoot? thanks. sj:confused:

Hey, glad to see you made it over here.

I have not loaded HS6, but I have burned pounds and pounds of WSF. It will load a really nice game load with 1 1/8 oz or 1 1/4 oz in 12 gauge. I prefer #5 shot for all of my bird hunting except doves and grouse, for them I use #6. The #5 shot is my favorite for pheasant in particular, it works really well!!! I have shot over 100 pheasants in the last 3 years with 5's BTW, so you know I am not guessing. Most all were with a 20 gauge, 1 ounce of 5's at 1200 FPS. A few this year were with 12gauge, 1 1/4 ounces of 5's at 1440 FPS. The 12 ga load is simply awesome, but you had better let them get out a little ways.

The 19.1 load is plenty safe. You can cruise over to the Hodgdon site and check for yourself. I shoot a similar load for skeet and they work really well, mine is 19.2 in a AA hull with all Winchester components.

Hope you did not pay more than 5 cents each:eek:

Anyway, the 19.1 is safe in the STS hulls with WAAF1 wads and Winchester primers. Check the load data if you change any components.
