I just picked up a box HSM Bear Load Handgun Ammunition 305 gr WFN GC for my 44 mag handi rifle. I just got the rifle and do not have components for the 44 mag yet so I figured I would buy some loaded brass for future reloading. These rounds looked pretty impressive, right around similar buffalo bore rounds. Has anyone used this round on whitetail or any other animal hog size or larger? Thoughts on accuracy, penetration, expansion, recoil? I appreciate any information.

My experience is that heavy hard cast bullets are not a good choice for deer. Thye whistle through like a field tipped arrow and the deer run a very long way. It's been a bad experience with Black bears primarily in damage control. We have killed a lot of them using different kinds of ammo.

The best ammo used has been the 240gr XTP they will fold and give instant feedback of a solid hit. Where many of my hunters have asked after the shot if they missed with the hard cast bullets. The animals often have little of no reaction with the bullet simply zipping right through.

For male wild hogs the solid or hard cast bullet are great. They have a thick gristle which will slow a HP down premature. The Heavy hardcast punches through this "plate" and kills them well. Still not many exit on bigger hogs, but they at least get into the lungs.

I used some HSM 305 grain Bear Loads (jacketed soft points) in my 6" Smith 44 mag on a hog and it flattened him, he was only about 120 pounds but it sailed through him so the bullet was not recovered, distance was approximately 30 yards. I see no problem with your choice in choice of ammo.
