hundred yards with a glock 19, should i be impressed

i once threw a rock at a faaar away duck - just for the show.

I hit that poor thing from like 70 yards away. Hope it survived.

(..how far can one throw those glockthings?)

I hit a 2'X2' plate 4 shots out of 6 with a 2" model 10... 100 yards. Couldn't believe it. Then I hit about 8 out of 15 with a Beretta 92.

Once you find your "hold" handguns can be pretty accurate at those ranges.

What this means is that you were doing everything right. That's a pretty good accomplishment. I've found that in some ways longer targets are easier because you tend to focus more on the fundamentals and not rush the shot like you do at closer ranges.

Just tried 100 yard shots today with the ole Glock 19. The target was a average sized steel shillouette. Was very impressed not only did the bullets hit target but they had enough power to make a good metal on metal sound.

I mess around with my Ruger MKII Competition at the rifle range when I'm too broke to shoot much more than .22. It has a Leupold 2x scope on top, which helps quite a bit I'm sure, and is set up so the bullets are on roughly at 25y and 100y in their arc. Best I've managed is a 4" 10-round group at 100y with my hand braced against a bag.

Wow... that's impressive! :cool:L

Best I have done, which isn't much really, is grouped 4 out of six reloads from my 4 inch Smith Model 10 on a 1'x2' target at 175 yards, standing two hand hold. But that gun is way more accurate than I am !

I recall reading in "Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting" by Ed McGivern that he wanted to test the long range capabilities of a handgun. Wound up with something like 60% hits on a human torso sized target at 600 yards with open sights from a stock S & W .38 revolver. Don't know if that makes anybody feel better or worse but the moral is: The gun can do it if you can. Handguns are capable of more than most of us will ever get out of them.

Long Shots

You never know what your revolver or auto can do ! I always thought 2" snubs were belly guns . The Taurus 605 2" snub I own will shoot easy head shots at 50' from a rest, all in the black. Just have to use a good sight picture and realize the short sight radius!

I watched a 15 year old kid Saturday, who has only been shooting for 6 months, hit a paper plate 8 out 12 from 100 yards using a model 23 Glock. Then he shot those 2 inch black sticky targets with a .22 rifle at 100, standing, and the misses were only by a inch or two. Wish I had those eyes! and was half that good at his age.

Teach them young and they learn for a lifetime.

Sniper 5 is right it ain't the arrow, it's the Indian.

Very true. I have a Ruger SP101 with the 2.25" barrel, and I was once using it to make empty .38 Long Colt cases (I've a few blackpowder-era guns in that chambering in shootable condition that I take to the range once in a blue moon.)

Attempting to hit a steel plate at 100 yards with a snubby firing anemic .38 Long Colt ammo is hard. The holdover turned out to be something like a yard . . . but once I worked out how much holdover and 'Kentucky windage' was needed, I could empty whole cylinders at that plate and expect to hear the sweet ringing of solid hits a half second later.

Ringing the plate at 100 yards with my CZ75 was downright boring in comparison.

I really think that you guys that are practicing your pistol shooting at 200 yards are my heroes. Please send me your address, as I am coming to your house when the SHTF.:p

At that range with any handgun is awesome in my book, unless you're shooting at household propane tank!! jk.. You should see what kind of groups you can pull at 50 yards... and take pics

I shoot long range with my iron sighted revolvers and with wounded game, eat to survive, or "bad" guys. 500 yards is not a safe place to be.
Watch my 5 part video series on youtube, its on long range revolver shooting with iron sights. ( http://www.youtube.com/user/texasfivegun )
Take some liquid paper, a needle, a brass "tooth brush" and a beach chair
if you can find one.
keithfrontsight.jpg

Use the liquid paper on your front sight. Make a line with the needle to use as a reference and brush of the
dried paper with the brass brush to start over if your marks are wrong or when your finished.

The chair I am talking about puts your butt about 4" off the ground and lets you lean back. You pull your legs up
put your hands/wrists between your knees. It works better "much better" for me than a bench rest or any thing else.

I have a Caldwell HAMMR machine rest and I can out shoot it with my chairs.
You must have "0" flinch for this, a good spotter helps and if you can get the sun behind you the bullets are easy to see in flight.

You may run out of front sight with a long barrel, short to medium barrels and tall front sights are easier to work with.

I have never shot a 500 or 460 S&W but we have found with 500 & 475 Linebaughs, 414 & 445 Supermags, 454 Casull, and
44 Remington Magnum. A heavy for caliber cast lead bullet works best. A gas check is easier to see in flight. A high velocity
is not needed. About 1200 FPS is what we use the most.

A 45ACP or 10MM Norma works great to 200 yards and good to 300 yards.

If I can help PM me and I will give you my phone # and email.
Good Shootin and Good Luck! Chad

TEXAS,

Can I swipe your 'sight picture' (so to speak)? It would be an excllent example to others how to use fixed sights at distances.

Thanks,

Deaf

I'm with model of 1905. Never even thought about trying to practice that far out. I would think you are doing something right if you're practicing at ranges like that, if you're standing and not using a bench rest.

The question is if you can do that with a handgun how far can you shoot accurately with a rifle? That is what I call reaching out and touching someone. :what:

well if that is directed to me Im ok with a rifle

Im a lot better if I slow down, this is my target at 250 at a rate of about 1 round a minute relativly slow fire I guess, but felt like I was cheating using my acog , I wear glasses so magnified optics are a huge benefit,

Picture046.jpg

being army has its advantages, in about a month I get instruction how to use my issued weapon at 600 w/ an acog I cant wait. no sniper though, those guys are tip of the sword Im just I man that loves shooting and firearms. sorry if I got off top moderators
