$25.00 bounty per coyote being offered by Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife during Jan-March, in our area, because we are overrun by yotes. I don't have a varmint gun, so going to use the 7mm. I've never hunted coyotes before. Can I learn quickly, or am I out of my league? Any suggestions would help.

Wow! I think they'll probably run out of money pretty quickly if it's anything like it is around here. A couple of counties over they offered a $14 bounty for every feral hog killed. They ran out of money within a very short time. People are probably thinking "Dayum! Not only is it fun but I can get paid for it?!"

Best times to hunt in morning or evening, they are usally not afraid of humans so you do not have to worry to much about spooking them. With a 7mm mag you wont have any trouble killing them with a good hit.

$25 a coyote! Man could I make some money.

Coyote calling with an electronic call is the way to go. My dad is pretty darn proficient at it and we often get at least 4 coyotes in a day and all the way up to 8-10. The 7mm mag should be more than sufficient considering we usually use .22-250s and .223s for rifles and 12 gauges for close in work.

You are't in California by chance are you? I will head right over! :D

It depends on the coyotes and where you are at on whether they are afraid or not. We often get in full camo and when they come in and get wind of us, they don't stick around. Man, I can't get over that. $25 a coyote. I could make some serious money.

Do a web search for coyote calling. Think about getting an electronic call and you could seriously clean up on coyotes especially if no one around there calls them very much.

"Serious money" might be kind of tough with more coyote hunters than coyotes out and about. :p The bounty is in effect in central Wyoming. A lot of trappers have pulled their snares and are waiting for the bounty to go into effect. Most of the guys who usually fly are on the ground waiting, and the sporting goods stores are selling calls like hot cakes. It's going to be a zoo.

I know several land owners with huge tracts of land that are already upset over the bounty. The last thing they want is a bunch of trespassers making the coyotes call wise and shy. I hope we don't see locked gates and No Hunting signs all over the place next fall as a result of slob hunters.

Get them while you can. After the first couple of weekends the coyotes will be so call wise and gun shy they will run the other way when they hear a mouse fart.

Hopefully the slob hunters won't ruin it for the rest of us. There is certainly enough BLM land and National forest bordering private land to give us some open country to shoot. I see coyotes in these areas often, so maybe I have half a chance. It'll be good to just get out in the fresh air during a time that I usually hibernate. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Bearmgc,
From what I understand it doesn't matter what the condition of the pelt is in a situation like this. The bounty is for the eradication of the coyote itself, not for the possibily to turn them around and make money... So Blast Away!

your 7mm with the litest bulletts it will shoot well(125 grain) and the yotes will fold with a well placed shot.remember to have fun and keep the $$ secondary.
