Hunting Dogs! Lets see yours!

Whose got em? Lets see them! Mine is a Weimaraner his name is Smokey! WE got him when he was 7 wks old he is now almost 11 months old. I took him hunting last fall when he was only 5 and 6 months old and for a dumb pup he did great. He handled doves first then grouse then lastly pheasants. He wasnt great but Im looking forwards to round two this next fall. Plus he is a great family and watch dog. He lives in the house with us and is just like part of the family (another kid)!!

I don't have any action shots of my girl Belle. She is a equally well bred pointing lab as well. She will be bred this time next year and that will be the official start of Magnum Point Kennels

Spud and Ginger in their prime. They are both 12 now. Spud is a Lab-Weimaraner, and Ginger is a Springer-Foxhound. Spud was an instinctive pointer, loves guns, and wouldn't break unless you told him too. I had to take him hunting because he was such a natural not because I was a hunter. Ginger didn't like the guns much but she can sure flush out the grouse.

Spud will only be with me for a little while longer. He isn't eating much these days and cancer is taking its toll on him.

I got tired of tracking deer. My dog fetches them for me after I shoot them with my 1740.



In all honesty, when I dove hunt I use one of our family's German Shorthaired Pointers. Amazing dogs. We raise them, in case anyone is interested...

He's a little older and bigger now and has been hunting this past fall. Good dog. He's actually my son-in-laws, but stayed here for a long time until they got a house where they could keep him. I trained him and I'm the only one that's hunted with him so far. His name is Ruger.

Since this is where my screen name comes from I guess I'll chime in:
This is one of my 4 Brittany's "Gunner Jo." My wife and I raised him from a puppy bottle feeding and all, he was the only pup to survive from a litter of 9 where the mother died at birth. He's kinda special to me as his mother was also, and he is a birdhunting fool, though at times I think more fool than birdhunter. This picture was his "5 minutes of glory" as we walked a tailwater pit in SW Kansas and got these three roosters (out of 20 or more) with 3 shots from my 20 gauge Beretta 391. He had a bad foot that day so I was only letting him run the short 5 minute spots and this one was the mother load!


This one is Mr. Rocket, I got him the day we started attacking Afgahnistan in October of 2001. This dog and I have put the miles on the ground in the last 8 years and there is no other dog I have ever gone afield with and not had to make a noise and that dog be right there all the time. The last two years this dog just flat out hasn't made a mistake, and to date I have never lost a bird with him in the field except for doves in extreme dry and dusty conditions. He is one awesome dog and has put on a show and earned his keep when I have guided hunts with him.

Birdhunter, nice! Wish we had pheasant down here. Someday, I'll get to hunt them buggers. I have never had a place to use a pointer, but then, the quail population ain't doing too good on my place now. When I first bought it, there were birds out there. I'm not sure if the fire ants got 'em or what? Lots of rattlers out there, too, and bobcats. A ground dwelling bird ain't got much of a chance.

But, them's some good lookin' Brittanies you have there.
