I have not had the chance to hunt with my muzzle loader, but I like real BP and a round ball. If you check out the muzzle loading section in this forum or one of the others, they should be able to tell you if your gun will favor round balls or sabots.

I'm with you, Grubbylads. I have no use for "modern" in-line muzzle loaders. IMO traditional muzzle loaders have much more class. I figure if I'm using jacketed sabot bullets, optical sights, and in-line ignition I might as well use a modern cartridge gun. Different strokes, though, so I have nothing against those who use the modern muzzle loaders, they are just not for me.

A 1:28 twist is way to fast for round balls, you want something like 1:66 or even more for them. I'd rather have at least .54 cal if using round balls on elk, too. The OP's gun is designed for conical or sabot bullets.

idaho elk hunter actually has it correct. inlines are legal in idaho but the cap must be exposed. my brother in law hunts with his inline.

maxiballs that we mold with about 50-50 wheel weight/lead mixture are normally what we use for hunting but all of our muzzle loaders are 54cal so I couldn't give you a weight.

are you planning on the craigmountain late cow or are you going to try for the bull draw?

I have a knight bighorn that I will be using to hunt elk and deer in Unit 39. I have not shot it yet as it has been to cold. Yes you will want to get conicals. A lot of people recommend http://www.muzzleloading-bullets.com/. I ordered 2 box of the 50/460. As soon as it gets warmer I'll let you know how they shoot.

For powder I picked up a can of pyrodex rs. A lot of people also like triple seven powder.

Mine is a 54 cal CVA trade rifle. I put a Peep on it and I really like it so far. It is a load of fun to shoot. I might give up archery next year to just go out during muzzle loader season.
