hunting for Barbeque in Memphis

Don't know if there is one near you, but the best BBQ place I've ever been to is Whitt's and only operates in TN (I believe).

I can't remember the name of the restaurant, but we stopped at the RV park across from Presley's place and when we told the clerk we wanted some BBQ she said the restaurant would pick us up at our RV. And the did..... in a PINK Cadillac. The BBQ was great, plus we laughed all night

There's a good soul food place about a block or two directly South of the FedEX Forum. It's on 4th, between Linden and Pontotoc. I don't know if they'll have the sort of BBQ you're looking for, but it's a good lunch place. We ate there when moving cross-country, and I just found it by using the street view on Google maps.
