Hunting in Northern Arizona

Guys, Im heading back to Tucson in the summer for another 2 years and am wondering about hunting in the northeastern part of the state.

I have bird hunted down in the Tucson area and have heard that deer hunting is ok. Im so used to hunting in the timbers and not the desert.

Turkey is another of my favorite animals to hunt so thats why im interested in info for the northeastern part of the state.

So if any of you have any experience hunting up around that area how about a heads up. Stuff like access, camping, permits if its on a Reservation and stuff like that. Thanks

I have hunted here: http://www.wmatoutdoors.com/ a couple times. Both times I went I was elk hunting. They have camping, and turkey hunting.

I have been thru the White Mountain area a couple of times. Up from Sholow or however you spell it. One time coming thru we seen 12 elk standing on the side of the road. Its a trip coming down from the mountains into the Salt river canyon. I will check that area out again for sure.

I don't know what is going on with them now. I hunted there for two years in a row on their cow elk hunt. Then last year they had that big brush fire go through Show Low and I didn't get any applications in the mail. Now I don't see the cow elk hunt listed on their website (although I might just have missed it).
Arizona has a lot of hunting to offer.

THe white mountains area is great for turkey, elk, deer, pronghorn and fishing. When you get to AZ just look at the hunting regs for zone 1. That is one of the best places in the state. It is about 4 hours drive from tucson. That or you can go up to the flagstaff area. I prefer the white mountains though. Remember that AZ has a lottery system for most animals. It makes it hard to get a bull elk tag. Turkey isnt a problem though
