Huntsville, AL CLEO

I've seen guys at Swan Creek with automatics so I'm assuming someone in the area is signing them off. Are you supposed to send it to Sheriff Dorning or the Huntsville Chief of Police?

I know. I indicated getting a trust in my original post. I just wanted to ask if anybody on here has had any issues getting the CLEO in Madison to sign off.

I think the answer to the question "Who do I send it to?" is answered by another question. "Who would respond if I dialed 911?" If its HSV PD, the HSV CoP, if its Madison PD, then Madison PD. If you live out in the county, the Madison Co. Sheriff.

I doubt you'll have any issues with the LEOs in Madison County.

You can always try that agency first, but just because (for example) your city police department would be the first responder, it doesn't mean that the county sheriff's signature would be any less valid on an ATF form. Certain judges and prosecutors can sign too, but they wouldn't be responding to any 911 calls.

A Trust is the better route. Anyone on the Trust can access the weapon vs only one person.

Trust is a better option if anything happens to you as for leaving it to relatives.

I'm a transplant to the area and my family lives in another state (a NFA friendly state). Would that be an issue if something happened to me or I took a job in an unfriendly NFA state and had to part with it?

In the past ten years I've lived in seven different states (some NFA unfriendly) and I could always have to take a job somewhere else so these are things I think about if I were to commit to getting an NFA weapon either by a trust or the sign off method.
