i`m wondering what would be a good beginners hunting rifle, preferably a little cheap.

im thinking for deer and such.

(im just curious since im thinking about getting a hunting certificate, theres some courses and a test...yeah that stuff.)

(i spelled hunting wrong i know, small laptop keyboard!!)

its interesting, lever action....very good looking tho :)

but otherwise, would most bolt action rifle be overkill? or are there just no good beginner ones, that aren't super expensive..

For Norway I'd look at the Tikka in a caliber from 6-8mm, or course you can never go wrong with a 30-06 either. Something along the lines of the 6.5x55, 7x57, 7x64, roughly equivelent to a .270 Winchester/.280 Remington in the US.

Moose season is good there and a 30 caliber would be just right to cover everything from Roe deer to Moose.

Bolt action .243 is good. So is a .308. A .270 works fine. None have terrible recoil. All are proven performers. Brand? Remington, Savage, Winchester. It's all good.

A lever action .30-30 works good too. I prefer the Winchester Model '94 myself, but the Marlin is nice too.

Basically, there's no one right rifle.

Iron sights, I'd go with a .30-30.

If you want a scope, I'd say any .270 with a Leupold Rifleman fixed 4X scope will be an excellent choice.

Clear as mud? :)

tikka has a couple of rifles with all these calibers available

222, 223, 22-250, 243, 308win, 6,5x55, 270win, 30-06, 9,3x62, 7mm rem mag., 300win.mag., 338win.mag

page wouldn't list a price tho

well, some rifles you get cheap in the US are sick expensive here....importing,tax, all that stuff

and i see some have up to 12 months delivery time!! (because they have to be brought from the US)

that sets me back a bit

I think all hunters should begin with small game and small calibers. I don't know what kind of small game you have in Norway, but surely there is something for which the .22lr is appropriate. I think you should start there and after a year or more of learning hunting and rifle and safety basics, then think about a centerfire rifle and hunting deer.

good idea

we do have alot of small game (i live a bit north in norway, small place...kinda away from any big city stuff...actually, alot of hours by car or a plainride away from big city :p

and a 22 would probably be easier and more economic to aqquire.

22 LR is a good start. Good, inexpensive way to learn the basics.
If you get into the bigger stuff, something mage locally, or nearby will probably be cheaper.
Tikka's are made in Finland, right? are the prices reasonable there?
What are some of the more common calibers locally?

tikka makes a fine rifle, if prices are reasonable for you, don't think twice about buying one.....you won't be disappointed

Maybe consider a Rossi or similar single shot with interchangable barrels for rifle and even shotgun calibers. They are inexpensive and versitile.

CZ rifles might be an option for you. . . . .

Czech made - very good quality. Good selection of styles and calibers here in the U.S. . Most anything you want from .22 rimfires to African safari rifles and in Norway maybe a better bet than a U.S. made rifle considering tariffs and trade restrictions within the E.U. . If you want a bit more power than a .22 long rifle for hunting small game consider the .22 magnum ( rimfire ) or the .22 Hornet ( centerfire ). Good luck! Let us know what you decide on.
