I’m at it again.

It is very possible that the cancer was caused from the oil fires and other chemicals we were exposed to. The cancer I had was very rare and is caused from heavy smoking and drinking. I didn’t smoke and drank very little.
In this pic you can see the smoke from the oil fires. They had only been burning for a few hours when the pic was taken.

Three Marines from my unit have already died from odd cancers.

That smoke is so thick, it looks photoshopped. Wow!!

Gunny, after seeing your housekeeping improvements, I began to feel ashamed of the messy system of ammo control in my basement. I ordered two batches of the peel and stick labels for my cans.
MVC-002F.JPG
I got about half of them labeled and ran out of labels. Yes "AR"=223 when you don't have enough 2's and 3's.
I discovered an entire 50 caliber can of 7.62x39 dated 66' that I forgot about. A whole can of Tokarev and Makarev and 32 acps. and about 150 more 50BMG rounds. I was happy to run into another can of 3006 AP in clips.
Looks so good I will have to spend more ammo money on labels. Your fault!!!:)

Ah Gunny I spy a Catch 22 Magazine Holder in Post 119. I have one with my Taurus M941in a bug-out kit. I think it is a convenient way to store and carry ammo.

I brought 4 more 50 caliber and one 30 caliber cans at the Gunshow this weekend. My wife asked if that was going to be enough. It won't be but it will keep me busy for a while over the winter filling them up.

Would you like some free labels? I have some 3.5 x 1 inch white labels I can send you.

Not all of it, just what isn't being used or likely to be in the future. Men get emotionally attached to possessions and sometimes need a woman's touch to truly organize their storage areas. I don't do indoor ranges but if you have an outdoor range with 100+ meters I'll bring Dad and his Springfield rifle. I get the feeling having you two together would be an interesting experience.
I've got two Ex wives so, I am familiar with a woman's touch when it comes to cleaning up. Just about everything I owned was trash and had to go to make room for their stuff. The last wife was very good at getting rid of stuff, just as long as it belonged to me. I did some horse treading for some of my junk a few years back for a 9x10 shade. I added another 9 feet to it making it 9x19 but left the wall up between the old and new. I told the wife that the new half was hers. I built a work bench in my half along with cabinets. She filled her half up and then started putting stuff in my half.
When we devoured I told her that she could have anything she wanted other then tools and gun related stuff. In one weekend my house and shade were just about empty.
Now I have thrown away a good bit of trash in the last few months, there was no way all that stuff in my shop could have stayed. I'm going through my reloading stuff right now. I plan to get rid of all the brass that I have no use for, like 300 Win Mag, 41 mag and the other stuff I don't load for.
There is an outdoor range about an hour from my house, but you have to have a state hunting license to use it.

Thanks for the offer Gunny, but I've ordered more peel and stick labels to complete my work.
When I said it's all your fault, I was jesting you. What I meant was you made me clean up my act! :) I actually have cases and cases of big peel off labels for the laser printer and I could have printed up something that would have worked. The peel off letter and number kits were just what I wanted to organize my ammo dump.
Good luck with the kit. :)

Gunny got me itching, so I did just a little labeling and cleaning up. Nothing worth taking pictures of but one of the nice thing about sheets of labels is, you can put pictures in addition to or instead of text. :D

The kit you sent showed up today. I’ll get the links cleaned up and put the belt together :)

Here is the rifle I decided to give to Noah. It’s a 1940 German K98. Just about all the dirty birds have been beat to hell by someone with a heavy hand.

Now I had told Noah that I was going to sell him a Yugo M48 for $150. When he told me that he would be coming over today I told him that we could take care of the business with the rifle.
When he showed up I told him that I had changed my mind about the rifle, I then handed him the K98. He asked what I wanted for it. I told him it was worth more then the M48 so instead of $150 I was just going to give it to him. He looked at me with disbelief and said “you can’t do that”. I said I already did. For a moment I thought he was going to cry, then he gave me a huge.

I then took out a repro k98 sling and we spent about an hour ruffing it up to make it match the rifle. Them I made him some dummy rounds.

You spoiled the lad. Should have started him off with a greasy, hairy Turk so he could experience the true joy of milsurp. Dummy rounds were a great idea, and rifle range time will be great fun, I am sure.

Noah is into WWII re-enactments. He plays the part of German infantry. Now he has a gun that he can use.
Noah did ask me what the rifle was worth. I told him that I wasn’t sure, but the look on his face when I gave it to him was worth more then the gun.
After I gave it to him, I thought him how to disassemble the bolt. When he left he shook my hand and told me that he still couldn’t believe that I had just gave him the rifle. I told him that I knew he would give it a good home.

Bless you Gunny! A fine gesture on your part. I hope the young man can sleep with all the excitement.
Where did you come by the German uniform jacket?(as in the picture.) I always thought the Germans had sharp looking uniforms. I saw an exhibitor at the Knob Creek MG shoot wearing the entire uniform like that. The Germans worked overtime to design a uniform that would tempt an entire generation to enlist.
Do you think Noah can handle the recoil of the 98?

That is Noah’s uniform jacket in the pic. I bet he didn’t get much sleep last night.

Bless your heart, Gunny. Noah has learned that this world, still, has some decent people left, and kind deeds, are sometimes, repaid, with kindness. A lesson that, someday, he might remember, and "repay" someone else, later on in his adventure of life.

Gunny

Your generosity and kindness is exemplary and is to be greatly admired and emulated. What really makes this all worthwhile of course is the look on the young man's face!

Well done, again, Gunny!

I remember my uncle's "Mouser." It's the rifle that got me hooked on bolt actions despite my dislike of recoil. I think the old man worked every trick in the book to make the weapon more accurate and he could perform miracles with it. Unfortunately the cousin that inherited it traded the rifle to a co-worker for a portable CD player And that guy traded it in to a "buy back" program. It's probably part of a manhole cover somewhere now. :(

I’m still working on things.
After mounting the ammo crate on the wall, that Total Recoil sent me there was that empty space to the left.

Today I got around to filling that space. I’ve had this display case for over 20 years, but have never used it.

Now what do you think an old Gunny would put in such a case? There are a lot of things I could fill it with, it’s not like there’s a shortage of things around here.
I decided I would display some of my black powder guns.

This is just a mockup. I need to find something for a background and something to hold the guns in place

How bout old newspaper replicas that covering the exploits of the various lawmen behind the black powder revolvers or old dead or alive poster replicas for famous outlaws.. You could even through in an old bandana or two. The other might be a movie poster of one of the various movies about the Earps--Tombstone, My Darling Clementine, etc. or even High Noon.

Gunny

Like the display case filled with black powder revolvers! boom boom has a good idea with some sort of replica newsprint or movie posters but instead of lawmen or outlaws I would go with something that was more Civil War related.

Going to see what I can find. I did look for Civile War pics with revolvers, but mostly found Union photos, I’m a Southerner.:)
