I am looking for a specific gun case, need help.

Title says it all. I am looking for a gun case that is made from 3 pieces. It holds the rifle upright in the case on two upright supports with cutouts for the rifle forearm and butt. The case opens by the top of the case splitting in two down the middle and having the two halves fold back over the sides (they are on hinges). My grandfather had one of these for his Winchester 52 and it was a great range case. It had room under the rifle for a staple gun, ammo, targets (rolled up) and any tools that could be needed. I want to find one for my father's anschutz.

I haven't been able to find even pictures on the net of this case so any direction would be useful. Where to buy, expected price, etc. is what I am looking for. My grandfathers was steel, but I would really love to get one out of an exotic wood (purple heart, cocobolo, etc.). I know a man who does beautiful wood work that can make one... but I would like to see if I can find one already made first. I expect it would run 3-400 to have it made (with stainless hardware, lock, and corner caps).

Ok, the Plano Airglide is almost what I am looking for.. execpt that it is:

1. Hideous
2. Plastic
3. OMG spoon out my eyes ugly
4. did I mention that it's not aesthetically pleasing?
5. uses velcro to secure my 1k customized rifle... I don't think so
6. no room for other range essentials

I would take a flip top box design, but I prefer the two piece flip top instead of the 1 piece flip top.

Take a look at the Pelecan 1750. If you want wood don't bother they are somekind of plastic. Waterproof, meets airline regs. Tougher than a pine knot.

I like pelican boxes. I have shipped more than my fair share of electronics in them. Unfortunately, that one loads from the side, errr... it splits exactly in two. I am looking for a case that is hinged 1/2 way up each side with the base one solid piece (or having only 1 hinge that is placed 1/2 - 3/4 up the height of the case would be acceptable).

I want it to open more like an ammo can, less like a book. Thank you for the suggestion though. A pelican is next on the list if I can't find a case like the one I am looking for.

"...My grandfather had one...My grandfathers was steel..." I'd bet that your grandpa made it. Any idea where it ended up?
"...purple heart, cocobolo, etc..." Horrendously expensive woods. Don't even think about them for project woods.

I have two types that I use one is for nightvision expensive scopes binos a take down gun would work in this one There about half the lenth and three to four times the height. I can't remember the model no. Sounds though you'll have a craftsman make yours

He may have, but I doubt it. They were several members of the IVRL that he shot against that had them. If he did make it.... it looked professional. Then again, he also made watches (actually made the components and then assembled the watches) and was a goldsmith to boot so he did have the skill.
It might have went with the Winny 52 that was in it. He sold it because he needed the money (and my old man who liquidated it for him didn't tell me.. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.). I would have gladly given him market value for it but I didn't know it was being sold.

I am aware what cocobolo and purple heart run. I figured I could get the materials for about 250-300 for a 36x6x8 box and pay the craftsman 150-200 (he is a personal friend and a hobbiest, not a professional) for the work. From the speed I have seen him work, it would take him about a day to do the assembly, and a day to finish the work, in his spare time.
