I feel so dirty...

Been waiting for supply to catch up with demand so the price would drop below $30 again but see little sign of big improvement in the near future. All the online sources have been "Out of Stock" for so long, and the few dealers with primers were asking $40-$60 for them, I decided that if I could get some at $30 I would because I was nearly out of stock at home.

Well, yesterday Weidner's had Wolf primers (most sizes, anyway) for $28-$29.50 per brick and bought 5 in various sizes. With shipping they came to about $34 per brick. More than I wanted to pay but I wanted to have them.

Now that I broke down and bought some, watch the prices fall to record lows in the next couple weeks.

I few months ago at a gun show (during the big primer shortage) i bought what seemed like the only box of primers there for $90. man now I regret that after i see boxes for $34
at the reloading store I go to

Let's hope.

No need to feel dirty for buying what you will use.

The guys who bought primers who don't reload so they could sell them at gun shows should feel dirty.

I don't think we'll see primers go below that $25-$30 range.....the manufacturers have seen what the market will bear and current ones going into the supply pipeline have distributors paying higher prices to get them. Unless distributors are willing to sell at a loss, $20 primers are a thing of the past.

I am not so sure. Many people did over pay, and many people still need some primers, but many folks are over stocked, so while everyone is using their stock up, primer sales will be down overall, and prices could still drop.

The high prices are artificial and temporary. Once the buying spree cools off and supply overtakes demand prices will fall as folks refuse to pay too much. How far the prices will drop remains to be seen. I suspect stores will get back to the $25-$28 range but it may take a few months. I paid about $34 right now because I needed some now. A big problem has been hoarders and people buying brick after brick at any price in a panic. They have kept supplies short and prices high.

Not a terrible deal

It's never good to pay more than a fair price. On the other hand, the difference between a $30 box and a $60 box is three pennies per round (assuming 1,000 primers). Sure, it can add up and what's right is right. Still, it's a very small component of the total price.

That's all true but it's still a 100% increase over what it was just a year ago! That's a lot! Worse than $4.00 / gal gasoline last year.

Just paid about 28/1000 at Hoffman's Guns CT. They have both small and large pistol primers. 1 to 2 weeks ago they were 32/1000 with a 1 box limit, kept behind the counter. Now there is a 2 box limit and they are out on the selves.
