I thought I had seen it all, Until Today's Gun show

"Events and the political situation is far different than 2008. For the first time in history we have a Socialist President who has publically announced that one of the center pieces of his next term is to disarm as many Americans as possible." - Yep this is true, shocking but true.

skylerbone, you seem to be right. I have yet to see any of our stores sold out or even close to selling low on shotgun ammo. I used to shoot skeet all the time, so I have been reloading shotgun as well as my handgun and rifle. It probably wouldn't hurt to buy a few rounds here and there of the good stuff. And whoever said patience, I am all for that now. I definitely am not going to pay these prices. Oh well, something to get a good chuckle at least. Ya'll take care.

LGS was selling Tula primers for $60 per 1000. Large pistol primers aren't hard to come by but small pistol are non-existent. Most stores have limited ammo to 1 box per customer. Even powder is becoming hard to come by though I did find a couple of pounds of Bullseye at a new store here in town. I even noticed that Dillion Reloading has a notice on their site stating that due to overwhelming demand expect 6-8 weeks before shipping.

When this mania calms down I'm buying no less than 5000 rounds of .22lr, put it away and build from there. I'm good on all my other calibers, just no .22lr.

It's the opposite for me: Plenty of 22LR and not comfortable enough with supply of centerfire.

I truly admire some of those older gentlemen who've pared down to some wildcat round, scattergun and snubby who are no more perturbed by circumstances beyond their control than they are about the gray in their hair. Spending an hour at the gunshop listening to the history of some Gibbs or Ackley cartridge and how may dogs, hogs or deer they've taken with it is a refreshing time out from the troublesome times we live in. Can't get that at Walmart, least where I'm from.

This is not like 2008/2009. This is 10 times worse. You have millions of new shooters all stocking up on ammo. Thousands are getting their CCL's. The rest of us are adding to what we already have. The demand is simply staggering. Everything is out of stock nation wide. Just think how much ammo is needed to restock everybody from the distributor to the mom and pop gun shop and right down to our ammo shelf.

Yes, this is out of control.

Just don't pay the man.

The big guy at our show, SAA, actually had higher prices than January on the popular calibers....so who knows, this could take a few months. The problem as I see it is NOT us internet chat nerds, local or national. It's the guys I watch at the shows who have no clue, as if ammo will never be made again. The guys just walk in the show and start buying stuff.

I laugh and walk on. But I look and watch, especially in the rarer caliber stacks. Yesterday .357Sig for $20 box!!!!!!! And 10MM for $25 a box. I'm not sure why he was selling name brand ammo so cheap, when (same SAA company) the cheapest 9mm is $30/50 and $600 for 500 rnds of .223.

I'm good on ammo but to shoot more I did as someone else mentioned I bought a good pellet rifle for less than 400 rounds of 223 and have been having fun with it. I had never owned or shot one before, just the old BB gun and scoped I have fun out to 50yds or so. Plenty of power if I want to kill a pest and good cheap practice. I plan on trying a CO2 handgun and see how accurate they are out to around 20yds.

You can look at this as being 10 times worse than 2008 (I can't comment on those days as I was in Afghanistan during that time so I missed out on that panic) or you can look at it as being 10 times better. All these new shooters trying to buy the ammo we would normally have on hand amounts to more allies in our corner. When I look at things in those terms, the shortages and prices don't bother me so much.
As far as gun show prices, I went to the gun show here in town last weekend. I wasn't looking to buy anything (and I didn't) but went to it meerly for the entertainment value. I mean you can't help but look at the crazy prices like $1500 for a Romanian AK, shake your head and laugh. I walked out of the place thankful I had stocked up many, many moons ago and have the reloading presses up and running as well.

Quote= Grassman: "What do you need? Maybe a trade?"

I wish I could help out but I need all I have. Sorry.

That sucks. I'm paying $25/500 for CCI at my LGS because his cost went up and I have a hard enough time justifying that lol.

I think I attended my last gun-show this weekend in Anoka, MN. 500 pieces of .223 brass going for $100 wasn't uncommon...bad attitudes, worse hygiene...bought 50 rounds of .30 carbine for $30 that had $11 written on the bottom of it. I stopped by Fleet Farm on the way home and bought 250 rounds of Remington UMC .45 acp for $105 and those prices were much better than i was seeing at the show. Badly worn glocks (looked to be police trade-ins) with one magazine were going for over $450.

I get that it's tough to find stuff right now, but I have a tough time getting ripped off by a guy with "Bi, Sel, Traide" written on his stand and what look to be a month's worth of pit stains and bbq sauce on his tank top telling me that this is the last chance any of you will have to buy one of these...

Today I had to hit a place I tend to avoid, WalMart. Since I was in there I looked at their ammunition. Nothing but shotgun and 30-30.
I went in my local Walmart last Friday. All they had was 7mm & 25-06. There were a few 100rnd boxes of birdshot left. That's about it.
The guy behind the counter said that they hadn't gotten any ammo in during the entire week. That's odd because even during the 2008/2009 period they still received a few boxes of something every night.

Yesterday. local WM and 2 Dick's sporting goods, No 22 hi vel. no 9mm, no 45, no 38, no 12 ga. bulk packs. WOW. My local shop is struggling to keep any ammo on the shelf. Small local Gun shops are at the mercy of the distributor. WOW!!!
