Was building my own rig for IPSC, back in the early 90s, when work stepped in and shot my dreams all to hell and gone. This is as far as I got, though it is still a tackdriver with my own reloads. Total of about $850 invested, including the price of the new gun.

Colt Mark IV with Centaur Systems Quadracomp and match bull barrel. Extended slide release adjustable for lockup. Wilson trigger and extended ejector. Adjustable sight and magazines by Pachmayr.

Does custom entail new grips? -_-

I'm getting ready to send it out for a makeover though. Already have heine sights and a 10-8 trigger at my place.

I lucked into the estate of a retired Jersey cop who was a serious competitive shooter into the 80's. The only gun I kept was the one that moved me the most - this 1911. I love that it's dead "old school" from the days when I first started paying attention to competitive shooting as a kid. I know the purists will bemoan the mods to a 6 digit non-A1 but what the hey, it wasn't collectible when he built it and I'm lovin' it today. It even has the old mongo thumb rest rosewood grips but I keep them off as they interfere with my 1911 adoration rack. Oh, and it's a rockin' shooter as well. My man knew what he was doing in the building.

This is an older model Colt XSE that I upgraded to approximate current factory standard with the fitting of a Novak sight set, Ed Brown grip safety, flat mainspring housing and Micarta grips. Not as customized as other pistols being shown but I neither have the inclination or the finances to lavish such attention as others have done. This is not a criticism of what others have done or envy just the way it is for me.

Wow!, those grips on the Colt 38 super are beautiful. You don't happend to have them for sale, do you? ;)
Sorry, they are not for sale.

You can find grips that look similar to these on the ebay auctions, but not the same as these. The ones for sale on ebay (that I`ve seen anyway) are hollow.

I think the ones on my gun date from the 50s or 60s.
These grip panels are not hollow. Solid silver with gold plate. Probably weigh 2.5 ounces each.
On the under side they are marked .925 (silver content?) and made in Mexico.
