This morning I was sitting in front of my computer checking emails when "POP!" - in comes an email from Midway USA saying they had Wolf Match ammo in 22lr for sale - It finally arrive they said. The email popped up at 9:15 - I immediately logged into Midway and - yup - you guessed it - it says Sorry - we're all out. How can that be?! Are there as many nutty people out there looking for Wolf as I am? Zero time went by and already they were out. Was it a marketing ploy to get me on their site? Who knows, guess I'll have to wait to be notified again - I'm not holding my breath....:cuss:

What was the price?

I have seen it selling at gunshows for an inflated price of about $100 a brick. I have about a case I should take to the next show and unload then put the money back into some better ammo.

I suspect it's this:

You can put an OOS item in your cart and let it ship automatically when it hits the shelf, or you can elect to be notified when it hits the shelf. The cart people don't need to log on and order; they get product shipped to them without any further action. The notification people don't get product; they just get email.

With the number of people seeking .22LR, there are a lot of notifications that must be sent out. They go one at a time in sequence. There are also sometimes delays in routing and your mailer probably only checks every 5-10 minutes or so.

Remember a month or so ago when Powder Valley went through 25,000,000 primers in 22 minutes?

It's quite possible that 15 minutes elapsed between the time the ammo went up on the website and the time you received the emailed notice.

Heh, I've had that happen several times to me lately. Once because I decided to wait until I got home from work.... oops.

Fortunately, 5.56 has been flowing for them and Cabela's, 1500 rounds worth to my door. All I'm particularly low on now is .22LR. Sadly, my Advantage Arms 1911 .22 conversion prefers CCI Minimags, very hard to get hold of right now.

Just so you know Wolf's 22lr match ammo is primo stuff. Its not your cheap 22lr ammo. Its the good stuff. I shoot their match extra and match target. Its good stuff for sure.

i gave up on trying to beat the computer goobs to the ammo at Midaway along time ago. I'm convinced it can't be done. I've had my cart ready, was logged in, had my wife trying on another computer, etc..Cant be done.

I admit its still not easy but IMO it is getting better. I've seen 9mm, .45ACP and even .22LR stick around on the MidwayUSA website more than long enough to sign in and place an order, as opposed to the situation as recently as a month ago when ammo seemed to disappear in seconds of being listed. :)

This made me laugh. I feel your pain! ...and I'm laughing with you, not at you.

:)

But all the LR I've seen on Midway does not allow back order, so I am not sure this is factual. It is possible I do not understand your post, though. I have had the same experience as the OP. I got the email with my I-pad in my hand, immediately responded to find it was out of stock.

My brother had the same experience for 22s. I forget which sight. I can now reasonably often find center fire pistol often locally. Eventually the same will be true for 22s.

All you have to do is keep checking Midway's site. I've seen .22 in stock pretty often there over the last couple weeks. You have to be flexible about what you can use, but it comes in.

25,000,000 in 22 minutes -- we know that? Wow. Even at five trays per person that's 50,000 orders!

I know this is way off topic, but I just have to say it.
Try getting tickets to a popular concert even without panic buyers it is as close to impossible as getting 22LR.

Several years ago I blindly stumbled into a deal.

IIRC, it was at Dan's Ammo. I happened to wander over there for a Look-See on a slow afternoon and I must have gotten there just as they posted a limited supply of S'thAfrican .303 Mk7z.

I immediately placed a quick order and then dashed over to my favorite forums hangout to spread the news.

Even though a couple of the guys responded PDQ, none managed to get any, it went that fast.

Excellent ammo ... I still have some.

go to your local shop, tell them to order for you a brick of .22lr, pay for it, get receipt. wait for call from them then go in and get it.

Apparently Midway has changed their system so that some OOS items can be added to cart while others cannot. I guess that's why they're not allowing backorder on most ammo and reloading components. I was just able to add a test item to my cart that was in the OOS, BO OK status. Tried another, wouldn't go.

Sorry for misleading--I haven't ordered from them in a while.

Yes, it can be done. You just aren't trying hard enough. :neener:
