lol!,I talked to a guy I used to work with on the phone today, here's the story.

I used to work with this guy,he's in his early 20's into the hiphop thing, I in my 30's.He expressed interest in going out shooting so I took him some time ago.He was the victim of movie BS though,he started to shoot my Berreta 92 "gangsta style".I quickly scoulded him saying thats movie BS,showed him some proper techniques, stance, sight control, breathing ,trigger control, and muzzle awareness. But when I wasnt looking,I heard bam! bam! bam! and saw he went back to his sideways gangsta shooting.
I said see,you didnt hit s*** that way did you?He said no.I said do it right or forget about it.Guess it sunk in cause he started hitting the targets with decent accuracy. He tried the same thing with my AR15,shooting from the hip but I corrected his thinking that way again.
Any way talking on the phone today,it seems he has been hitting the range often,is now talking more educated, has joined the NRA,and just bought his own AR15...now if he will just go out and vote!

Alrighty!!

Way to go, Sir! ;) This is another outstanding example of GETTING INVOLVED and proving that learning by doing is just another way of winning hearts and minds.

My electronic-muffs are off to both you and the newly converted!!

VERY well done............!!!

That's the way to convert the non-shooters to shooters, one range trip at a time. I will consume an adult beverage in your honor! :D

I took a bunch of my brothers and brothers in law shooting a couple weeks ago (they are all Canadian except me). We were on BLM land and set up some targets, cans, etc. Many of them were either close to anti, or at least didn't see the "need" to have guns. Once we were done, though, I had them all converted. Smiles all around. Nothing like a Walther P99 with 15 rounds of rapid fire at a milk carton to make you happy. Or a .357 shot in single action. Or a Springfield Armory TRP 1911 that just feels at home in your hand. One brother is now investigating how to get a handgun in Canada! Woo hoo!

thanks everybody,TX know what cha' mean.A few times over the years I or my friends have taken newbies out with us,be it friends or girlfriends. You can see the light go off in their eyes when they start hitting their targets. The best thing to do is let them use a gun thats easy to use and accurate, like a .22 to start with cause that will encourage their enthusiasim.

I called this thread "monster" 'cause over the phone he was saying he wanted to get this next, get that next....I guess he better start thinking about getting a decent size safe also haha!:D

I recently got my girlfriend interested in shooting. I took her out in the field, popped off a couple .22's into a target, not trying like I was a champion but more for showing her how to hold the rifle and position it when shooting and when your "at ease." I took my Ruger 10/22 with a folding stock and red dot scope, figured that would be best for practice and for confidence. I gave her the rifle after showing her some techniques, she drug it up and at around 50yds, put 3 out of 4 shots in the bullseye! Now I'm in the process of teaching her the functions of a bolt action and how to get used to a Magnified scope. I figure a .22 Mag will suffice. Next step after that, get her in some camo and out in a field!

Well done lionking! I've "degangsta'd" a few would be homies that I've gone shooting with, also.

I just finish teaching our county's 4-H air rifle and .22 program, and we had our competitive shoot yesterday. While none of them will have the AMTU calling them, (Yet. I'm still working with my son, he shot the highest score) they all enjoyed themselves, and most importantly, were very safety concious. I hope to see most of these kids back next year, I will be adding Pistol to my Leader certifications.:)
