So I have been browsing a few of the local gun stores lately. I have been looking to put a Bersa Thunder 380 in my hands as I am wanting to replace a 380 I sold a few years ago. I have come to see the S&W's the PPKS and the Walther PK380 among a few others. Most stores around me don't seem to carry the Bersa. Today on my search I spotted a S&W model 629 44mag in the case and asked to see it. The trigger was smooth in DA and the SA trigger breaks nice and crisp. All in all I felt this gun was calling to me. I fell in love with it and put it on layaway. I had a 44 Ruger Super Redhawk for a long time but, I also sold that off two years ago. That gun was nice but I never really loved it. Even with 44 specials it was not very accurate for me. Built like a tank but it didn't have the smooth action feel like the Smith and Wesson. I can't shoot many rounds in 44mag as I find it punishing But I still like a gun that can shoot both. The Smith and wesson feels better to me and so I pulled the trigger so to speak. Any of you ever gone to buy one gun and ended up buying something completely different?

Only every time I set foot in a gunshop. Went to pick up a SIG P-320 but the used S&W Model 67 needed a new home ... stuff happens. Typically when I'm seeking a new firearm, something in the used counter catches my eye; conversely, when I'm looking for a specific used gun (such as a pre-lock S&W revolver or an old lever rifle) some whiz-bang new gun announces itself and needs my attention ...

On another note, my 4” 629 is one of the few guns I have bought and left alone. No new sights. No trigger work. No new grips. Nothing. For a big gun it handles great, has a great (awesome really) trigger and the sights are fine.

Hmmm I had that happen when I went to buy a 1911 this fall . Made a thread here and got some really good advice. Went to two of my lgs to handle some guns. Handled a couple of 1911s and headed to the other side of the gun case while I waited for the clerk.than I saw a CZ p01 sitting in the case, tucked in the back row. Around here czs are far and few between ,let alone a p01 with nato numbers on it. Asked to see it,and it melted into my hand. That was that, had to have it.

Last gun I bought was a sr1911. I went up to the lgs to pick up either a 4" gp100 or a 4" sp101 for another woods carry gun. Wasnt sure what one i wanted yet. Something to split sizes between my 2.25" sp101 and 6" gp100. Ended up handling than buying the 1911 instead.

That how I ended up with my 629. When into the gun shop for something else, a new 1911 probably.
That big stainless 629 was just sitting there calling to me. Buy me. I need a new home. Buy me.
Once I picked it up, it was coming home with me. I guess I have no willpower. Sad.

I used to be that way with women. Then I got married and am living happily ever after. :)

I can't say that I have done that (looking for one gun but finding something else), but I use to go to gun shops and gun shows with a wallet filled with cash, just looking for anything that piqued my interest. Bought quite a few guns that way, like a Baby Browning, a Browning Model 1910, and a beautiful Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless with factory nickel plating and factory pearl grips.

Had been looking around for my first 1911 back in 2015, and wandered into a pawn shop away from my town once to see what they had. They did indeed have a nice Springfield Commander-type in stainless, but we didn't come to a price agreement (we probably would have if I had taken my current attitude that money on guns like that can normally be recouped later.)

Prior to that, I had let lapse my desire for a Bauer .25, something I'd been intrigued in as more of a curio piece, but had only seen in gun shows for extreme asking prices.

As I was going to leave the pawn shop, I spotted a Bauer in the case. I told the guy "This is going to sound weird from a guy who came in here looking for a .45, but I'd like to see that little Bauer there."

I ended up leaving with it, and I'm glad I did.

(I did end up getting a 1911 some time later, and another one after that.)

All the time! Once I went into a big box sports store, to buy a 9mm for my wife. Walked out with two Walther 22 pistols...figure that one out. Oh look, there's a puppy...lol!:)

I was the same way about getting a Baby Browning. Ones I saw at gun shows were way too much money for something I was just mildly interested as there were other guns I wanted a great deal more. Then one day I'm looking through the Used Gun case at the LGS, just checking out what's new and there's a nickel plated Baby Browning LNIB for under $400! Didn't even have to think about it! Got my wallet out at the speed of light and bought it. Amazing workmanship in such a miniature package!

Walked in to buy an AK and walked out with a '42 S&W Victory Model.
Walked in to buy a Police Positive and walked out with a Ruger MK1.
Walked in to buy Colt 1911 frame #1303, but discovered it was Remington Rand #1303, and walked out with a S&W 6904.
Lol.

It’s happened to me a few times, but I have always corrected the problem by going back and getting the intended gun.
Now what has happened more times then I can count is walking into a gun or pawn shop with no intent to buy a gun and leaving with one or two.

I’ve only bought 1 handgun on impulse, it was a nickel Browning BDA a LGS had in the case for $395. Back in 03 and I still have it.

To be tempted by a gun ain’t no sin but the weakness may prove costly latter when you break up.

Like the nickel plated BDA .380! Had it's Beretta Model 84 counterpart when they first came out. A bit too wide for concealed carry but served very well for many years in the home defense role.

Blackhawks and RedHawks have the trigger guard close to the grip. When you fire the guard smashes into your knuckle

I’ve got a Bisley in .45 Colt and it’s a joy to shoot, even with heavier loads. But usually it’s regular .45 level which are mild but hit hard.

I actually went to my LGS to buy one of those surplus CZ's in .32 auto I had been looking at for a little under $200.00. Didn't need it, but always wanted a 32 and this one looks like a PPK. HOWEVER, in the next case was a police trade in Sig P229 in .40 that I wanted in the past, but couldn't afford new. SOOOOO, I changed my mind and took the $200.00 and put the Sig on lay-a-way, over half the price of a new one. Still don't have a .32, but I got my dream gun. I'll get a .357 barrel for it next time I can.

Preacher, I got one of those CZ70s,(VZOR70) it is a favorite pocket carry now. A little heavy,
but a massively heavy DA first pull, and a 9 shot single stack. Love it.

As to "going to buy one, and getting another", the way I think of it is the intended purchase is only a guideline, until the selection is made...

Thanks, it's one of my favorites though I will never carry it. I just love how well it was designed and made.

Yes.
Yesterday, lol.
Went to a shop to look at surplus Mausers and wound up coming home with a Glenfield Model 75. With a side trip to look at a 10/22.
I may go back for one of those Mausers, just have to figure out how to pay for it..........

Today-----not exactly a gun

Went in today to see if they had any of the new Ruger PC carbines------nothin---------but did walk out with a little Buck 55 that they had on sale.
