I traded my Taurus Pt-111 9mm to a friend because he wanted a gun he could secure better with the children around his house. He traded me his "bedside" pistol for it.

His bedside pistol was a clean with a slight bit of holster wear at the muzzle, slim gripped East German Makarov!!!!!! In perfect shape with the 2 magazines, East German Shoulder holster and cleaning kit.

Did I do good????

I feel so guilty......................well, off to the range.

Did you do good? Depends on what you wanted. If you didn't like the PT-111, you did fine. And if you wanted a MAK, you did fine. But you didn't really move up in some other important respects. At best an even swap. But the EG mak will be a fine gun, and you'll always be able to sell it.

Comparison:

Which is more securable. Neither.

Which is more reliable. Probably neither, but Maks just don't break. Possible + here.

Value (market price?) EG Maks go for $225-$275 used. What's a PT-111 go for? Probably even, here, at best and you MIGHT have lost a little.

Capacity? Mak loses out, here.

Which shoots better? Maybe the Mak. Maybe.

Which fires a more powerful round. The PT-111, to be sure. The 9x18 round is borderline... I'd view this as a negative for you (if you plan to carry) but a decided PLUS for him.

He needs to get a bedside/bedroom gun safe (about the size of a large cigar box) and get a darned .45!!

I think you done good. I like Makarov's a whole lot better than Tauri. Had a bad experience with a Tauri so I am prejudiced.

I don't really do Taurus anymore, but don't they have an internal lock? Just thinking maybe that is what is being referred to as "secures better".......tom

Older PT-111s (I bought mine new in 1999) do not have that foolish internal lock.

You gave him a jammomatic for a reliable gun, esp. for the purpose of him defending his family. You SHOULD feel bad.

Hey, alot of Taurus autos work well. I'm sure it's the internal lock he wanted. He got what he wanted and so did FROCKDUTCH1, nothing to feel guilty about.
