The actual content of the story is of little value, but this was one person's response.

This is such a sad story, People we need to wake up. Stop killing each other, We need God in our lives bad.

And another thing is all GUNS need to be BANNED, NO one should have a gun except the police, My son was shot in 2005 and (name here) came to visit him, and now he gone
Banned all guns please, stop the killing

It just makes me wonder. If you advocate for a total gun ban than obviously you think it would work. So why, exactly, would you still want the police to have guns? Seems there wouldn't be a need.

It's because these people think common citizens have less self control than the police, and the police cannot do any wrong.

Well, of course until something comes out like the tazing of a wheelchaired man because he disobeyed orders to stand up (couldn't he's crippled, thus the wheelchair)...I forgot how that article went, but he was hospitalized over it if not dead.

Point being, even police make bad decisions...as they are also human. Thus it's another double-standard based on disarming the citizenry. I suspect this person got spoon-fed some bad info from the anti-gunners.

Yes, same name, but surprisingly enough it wasn't from googling my own name. Just so happened.... :)

Oh how horrible! Did they catch the gun that killed your son? I hope so, we can't have a murdering gun like that running around! What happened? Were the gun and your son in rival gangs or something?
I remember back before guns were invented and nobody was ever killed.

Well 2 things. He/She lost a loved one. They were hurt by a person using a firearm. Grief makes folks irrational.

The other thing is people want to do SOMETHING to make it better. In their question for something they look to ANYTHING sometimes without really considering from a logical perspective if it will work. Simple (yet flawed logic) would dictate that banning firearms would diminish the total count in "the wild" thus lowering the chance and occurrence of crimes committed with a firearm. Just on that premise (not even believing gun bans work completely) you would call for the ban.

Looking at that premise, we could bring up FBI stats and other stats to shoot it to pieces (no pun intended).

Another angle this question "Why do you NEED a gun?". IF someone else thinks you do not NEED it, then it is no big deal to remove it from you. They simply do not understand the need to protect yourself. They live in utopia or in a "civil" society where such things are perceived as not needed. Crime happens to other people not them.

I like to tell people that if they do not feel they need a gun, it's o.k., I'll protect them. And now, they should get out of my way (sic) so that I can. Their freedom to NOT protect themselves should not encroach on my freedom to do so.

Pff God and religion have killed far, far more people than some random shooting spree's. Governments come in a very close second, they are quite good at killing their own people.

No thanks I'll stick with the guns.

Isn't it funny that when you do point out how ridiculous it is, by suggesting that we should also ban cars because more people die each year from automobiles, that they in turn look at you like you are crazy?

If I said all cars should be banned, because some guy got drunk and hit my child and killed them, or because someone left their keys in the ignition in their driveway, and my son drove off with it and killed someone else, or his self, people would think I am crazy.

But yeah, let's not take away the things YOU use on a daily basis.

My parents think that people who carry guns (legally) just want to shoot someone or that the majority (or maybe I should say unanimous amount) of people who carry guns are up to no good, yadda yadda yadda. My mother has never been the victim of a violent crime, gun crime, gun related death, or anything else of the sort. My dad was in the Air Force and witnessed or heard of many people accidently shooting themselves in the head spinning or playing with their service revolver.

My mom is just scared of firearms to the point if she sees one in the same room she almost has a panic attack or refuses to go in said room.
My dad's experiences have taught him to fear all guns because you might have an accident.

If they, especially my mom, fear guns and don't like people carrying what do you expect a person who has lost a loved one by use of a gun to think or believe?

Is it logical? No. Its an emotional response for them to not feel helpless.

Tools are not good or bad. They do not do anything wrong unless they malfunction. Do you know what kills more people every year than just about anything else? PEOPLE. A car cannot kill you any more than a cupcake can. It is the person BEHIND the car, cupcake or gun that does the killing.

So, I hereby pose this question to all anti-gunners: Why do you insist upon blaming the tool and not the user?

Most people cannot comprehend that there are those that kill because they are sociopaths or just want something and have NO morals.

Laws need to be made in these peoples small minds to stop such incidents.

This was happening in the dawn of man before guns.

I totally agree with your statement but unfortunately the car analogy usually fails because they usually respond by saying cars were invented for transportation and guns were invented for killing. We really have to come up with a better one, me included.

"Is it logical? No. Its an emotional response for them to not feel helpless."

And in their emotional response they sow the seeds of helplessness for countless others.

I recall a story about Cain and Able befor firearms . Was the jaw bone of an ass out lawed ? If all firearms were destroyed some other object would be used as a weapon to kill. People will never change .

@ 84B20: Swords! Swords are perfect. The only purpose they were DESIGNED for was killing. If I stabbed, slashed or otherwise murdered someone with a sword NOBODY would call for a ban of swords. They would blame me and whatever pathologies I may or may not have NOT the tool, even though that tool was originally designed to kill men.

Yeah, my g/f used that one on me when we first met. She now knows why I carry. These people need to go through their grief, then have a scenario explained and have them run into a brick wall with their theory of cops as the only gun-wielders. Then present the fact that almost ANYONE can stop a murder of themselves or loved ones. Just ignorance and emotions, both of which can be cured... most of the time.

Cause there will always be violent people out there. My question is why would he want to put his life in another humans hands when he can protect himself. Police officers can go bad too, they are only human after all. Liberals tend to give people of power and authority the benefit of the doubt. That is why they are willing to give up their second amendment rights and trust the govt. not to go after any of our other rights. Why they do that is a mystery to me.

there was a gun ban in chicago for decades............there was/is more street violence in chicago than you can shake a stick at:confused: duh

i think we need to step back and see where thing went wrong for the gun. maybe the gun had a abusive owner and had a gunhood full of neglect? maybe the gun was made crazy by some bad oil? or maybe just maybe it had some bad ammo for breakfast and PROJECTILE vomitied on the child by accedent.

not being insensitive, just some thoughts

Of course we don't get it. It's not a rational debate, it's a quote from a person whose son was shot. Recognize that their loss affects their point of view and let it go.

I feel bad that grief causes people to lose all common sense. I mean absolutely no disrespect to the person who lost their son.
I hope eventually that the survivor will think, "If my son were killed by someone with a baseball bat, would I demand all bats be confiscated and burned/melted?" The same could be asked about if the weapon were a car, rock, chain, tire iron or (?).

time heals so maybe time will bring common sense back, also.
