Thought I knew everything.but. My son-in-law asked me a question that stumped me. He wants a gun with the following criteria;

1. 9mm
2. Mainly polymer
3. Single stack magazine (not too thick/wide)
4. High quality and very reliable
5. Capable of adding a laser light (crimson trace or lasermax)
6. Double action only (not a 1911 single action with safety)

The only thing I can think of is a Sig. Kind of wide though.

I figure if anyone can make me look smart it's you guys. Thanks in advance,

Goldy

Kahr P9 or CW9..
Ive got the CW9. reliable, accurate, great pointability, good trigger...

dont know about the laser addition... I just know I wouldnt put one on mine if I could, just my prefrence tho.

definetly look into a Kahr.. every model Ive fired, has been great.

ip.

Glock has some in the thirties-range that are single-stack. They are compact or sub-compact, I think, and I can't recall if they are 9mms, but....

Tell your son-in-law to stop being so dang particular. :neener: :p

I can understand most of the requirements...the single stack magazine is the deal-breaker. If he could budge on that, I think the ocean would part with possibilities.

Sorry. I fully acknowledge that was absolutely...in now way...helpful. :D

here was my first clip thru my Kahr CW9..
all 7 on paper, 3 in one hole..
from 25 Ft, using WinchesterWhiteBox 147gr JHP personalProtection loads..

Ive become much more accurate after over 1k rds, and the 147gr SXT from Winchester are more accurate with less muzzle Flash.

Slimmer and more reliable than a Glock IME.. Ive owned 2 Glocks.. also lighter..

The CW9 is a bit cheaper than the P9.. Ive fired both quite a bit, with little noticable difference.

ip

PS, sorry for the crap pic, Ill have better ones soon.

SWMBO bought a Kahr CW-9 because she liked the grip!?!? First trip to range , it didn't feed al the HP's so I polished the feed ramp and it seems OK now, though I'd like a couple hundred more HP's through it before CCW. I Shoot it very well. It has a long trigger (as in DAO) and long reset, unlike Glock or S&W (what the hell is S&W doing making autos??) but smooth as glass. I may be a few hundreths slower with the CW-9 than with my G-19 but I have several thousand rds through the Glock. He might want to consider a Makarov, not 9mmLuger but darned fine weapon, especially for the money.

Stay safe.
Bob

How familiar is your son-in-law with semi-auto pistols?

If he puts it to these requirements he'll be disappointed unless he really knows what he wants, over what he needs.
Ask him for details of why. I learned when I went gun shopping it wasn't necessarily what i wanted, but what fit my needs.

Good luck regardless.

Paging Oldgold

I think I gotcher pistol here:
Kel-tec PF9

pf9_pic02.gif

The PF-9 is a semi-automatic, locked breech pistol, chambered for the 9 mm Luger cartridge. It has been developed from our highly successful P-11 and P-3AT pistols with maximum concealability in mind. The PF-9 has a single stack magazine holding 7 rounds. It is the lightest and flattest 9 mm ever made. Firing mechanism is Double-Action Only with an automatic hammer block safety. The PF-9 will be available in blued, parkerized, and hard chrome finishes. Grips will be in black, grey, and olive drab.

The PF-9 accessory rail will accept the latest compact weapon lights and lasers.

Here shown with INSIGHT Technology's X2 Laser

Friend of mine in Las Vegas just bought one for his son. Very pleased.

There's another thread (just here) that details one THR member's experience with his new PF9.

Animation of the PF9 here.
