I purchased it in January, and it was my first handgun. I have shot ~600 rounds through it. I enjoy shooting it, and it is my home defense/carry gun. in fact, it is my only other firearm other than my 10/22. The problem is, I feel its fairly blocky, and just don't carry it very often. (i do have a MTAC holster and 5 stich wilderness belt) I'm not an extremely proficient handgun shooter, and think that I need some practice with a .22 handgun...which I do not own.

Funds are tight, and these are the firearms I am planning on purchasing...in order.

saiga 7.62x39 -before prices go up again
ruger lcp -to have a gun I will feel comfortable carrying
some .22 hangun.... ruger mk3/buckmark/etc -to have a plinker
fullsize 9mm/40/45 -for a range gun/home defense gun

Should I sell the xd to fund the other firearms? I dont feel that attached to it. My first firearm was my 10/22 which I don't plan on ever selling. But the xd doesn't really have any significant place in my heart. I just don't know if I will regret it, and I don't know what a fair price is for it. I asked the gunshop guy casually what he thought I would be able to get for an xd9 s/c and he said he'd pay $225 cash or $300 trade. Feels like a huge low-ball. But he didn't see the gun.... Would listing it locally for $400 be fair?

ANY opinion is welcome!

I get rid of things I don't use. Ask what you want for it, and hold out until you get it. I've traded several guns, and have no regrets. Just make sure that you want what you're getting more than what you get rid of.

It didn't belong to your father, your grandfather or some famous person --> no sentimental value at all. Dispose of it at will.

The cash offer is low. $300 trade would depend on what they had. $400 for you to sell sounds good. Worst that could happen is that someone talks you down.

Personally I'd love a XDSC.

I agree with Floppy and Lee.

If you have NO sentimental value in it... get something that you WILL shoot often, practice with often, LOVE and/or like MORE than x, y or z gun.

Stuff is stuff.

I would try to sell it on my own or use your LOCAL store to put it on consignment or towards another gun down the road.

Best wishes!

Sell!!!

I agree. Sell what you don't shoot. I don't believe in safe queens. (Well...maybe just one....my 4" 686+.....) To get maximum $ sell it in a face to face transaction if your state allows that. Advertise on your local gun board / website. If you can't do a ftf or are uncomfortable with what could be a potentially dangerous situation, sell it on www.gunbroker.com I have sold several there and have always gotten blue book value. Whatever you do, please dot not sell your gun back to your dealer or pawn shop. As you already suspect, you will most definetely get SCREWED :fire: Good Luck!!!

Martha Stewart once said, "If you never use the item, if it isn't irreplaceable, and if it has no sentimental value, just get rid of it."

how much you want for it? ;)

I have a saiga, converted of course. So glad I bought it before the last price increase (got the one of the last ones from classicarms for $250) I love it!

I'm kind of in the market to buy an SC9mm though

I would say sell it and get something you would use more, unless you just really like it or are attached to it.

I don't understand why you want to sell it. I have one strapped to my side as I type (and has been there all day). It is NOT bulky at all. I have a Tagua Conceal-type Belt holster that is quite comfortable to wear.

You list as one of the guns you want to buy as a 9/40/45. You already have a 9. just not fullsize. Fullsize guns are much harder to conceal and much heavier to carry. The SC is so much easier to conceal.

I fully understand. I sell stuff that I don't shoot, or I have duplicates of.

For carry, it has to be very small, or it just stays at home. Maybe if we had open carry, I would carry more tho.

I would get a small PF9 or Kel Tec 380.

Or a good range 9mm. I now belive in both ends fo the spectrum. Good carry and good for the range. I don't try to get one that does both.

Sell it!

It's Tupperware for gosh sakes! Really, who gets attached to a salad bowl!

SORRY, SORRY, SORRY

Now that I got that out my system. You might really want to think about your stated long term goals. If you want to get a 9mm HD gun then why sell this at a lose to then turn around and buy one like it later for more money?

I do not own a single gun that I do not use frequently... but I am a shooting enthusiast, not a collector.

If I find a gun becoming a safe queen, I send it on it's way to be replaced by something that will be used.

I would say that if money is not an issue, why sell it? Hold on to it. You might change your mind or come across a trade or other deal including it. But if money is an issue and you want something else more, do what you need to do. I would just make sure you get as much money as you can for it.

I tend to be a collector. I like having examples of different types of firearms and I hate to sell a gun if I don't have anything similar. I do have plenty of storage space. Not everyone is in the same boat though.

I don't sell any of my firearms because I have sufficient funds, but if money is tight, and if you're not attached to it...it's understandable.

However, if you don't have ANY OTHER gun for HD, (10/22 won't quite fit the bill, and Saiga certainly won't), I'm not sure why you're selling it to buy another 9mm for a loss?? 22 pistol is not so expensive, considering how much ammo costs (I just spent $107 on 500 rds. of 9mm at wal-mart), so if you just want a cheap 22pistol to shoot/plink, I wouldn't sell your XD for a loss and go out and buy a 22 pistol and saiga with that money....

Before you sell, I would try to save money elsewhere in your life so that you can purchase a 22pistol, and hang on to that XD....it's a fine gun IMHO....got one for my CCW.

Depends.
Do you need the handgun to be protected?
Some would need a handgun to be safe. If you are in one of those areas, I'd keep it until you have a reliable replacement. If you're in a relatively "safe" area where you don't feel unsafe not carrying, maybe you don't need to get the replacement first.

But it does sound like you don't particularly like it, so you should sell it.
My logic is that my personal wish list for guns is pretty small. I like to keep it simple. Eventhough I love guns and shooting I don't feel the need to weight myself totally down with gun "stuff". So I have decided to only keep the guns that I really like or need. I think I can get by and be very happy with less than ten guns.
Your list is smaller than mine, so I think you should eventually sell the XD and get something you really love.

OTOH, I have sold some guns that I really regret selling.
I sold a P-225 that was utterly reliable and deadly accurate. It was like an extension of my hand and I've never owned another automatic since that was anywhere near as dear to me as that one. I just bought a P-226 to try to replace it but the truth is that it's just not the same. I think I'll probably sell it.
I also sold a S&W model 60, no dash with a pinned barrel. It was concealable, reliable, and cute. I did like it but I wasn't smart enough at the time to figure out a way to comfortably carry it. It was an accurate little cuss - easily kept a cylinder full on a pop can at 25 yards with a little practice. I still miss it.
