dont beat yourself up i think you reacted well considering your state of mind or sleep or whatever. you were protecting your family and you realized there was no threat and cooled off. Sounds like it was an excellent dry run/drill. We have all gotten caught up in the moment before and felt a little embarrassed but you were acting on instinct and thats ok this time.
