I'm pretty sure you're looking at the import stamp. CAI is who imported it, and they are based in VT. It was likely not made here unless it has a US Property stamp on it.

Century Arms International is not the manufacturer of that rifle. It is the importer of that rifle. The ATF requires that the importer stamp it's name and state on every firearm they import. Century Arms didn't even exist as a corporation until long after WWII ended.

The actual manufacturer should be stamped on the receiver.

It's going to be one of the Savage Lend Lease SMLE No. 4 Mk 1 * rifles stamped with the U.S. Ordnance "Flaming Bomb" and marked "U.S. PROPERTY" that Century brought in from Turkey .

As soon as he get's a good look at the left side of the receiver he'll tell us.

You better hope it wasent made by Century Arms International. Their reputation is as "Angry Beaver" gunsmiths and assemblers.:barf:

They do import a lot of firearms, Ive had a couple with their inport stamp on the right front side of the barrel.

Not to deviate too far off topic, but I think the only Enfield building Century did was conversions to "Jungle Carbines". Jim Supica has an article on his site about spotting fakes.

See that big "S" on the left? That's the "Savage" company manufacturing mark. It's a Savage made rifle. The Century markings on the right are importers markings as required by federal law.

Btw, the current issue of the NRA's "Man at Arms" magazine has a good article on the Savage No. 4 Mk I rifles.
