I haven't been to a gun store in some time. Got tired of empty shelves and crazy prices. Most new guns don't do much for me.

Today I had a Dr apt and ended up needing to kill time before a script was ready.

I actually found some decent deals!

First up a 686 plus 2.5 inch barrel for 750 asking price. Not bad...been looking for this...

Ruger p90 stainless 45 acp. Yes, I grew up on silly 90s action movies and I've been keeping my eye out for the Desperado guns!

It was sitting by a near identical mate, a Ruger p89 stainless 9mm. They were even kind of arranged crossing like in the film. Prices really went up on these models, but this store was asking like 320 or 340 a piece... pretty much vintage prices of what they always kind of went for.

Then I saw a stoegar cougar compact, 299 and a Smith sdve 280...wow, a new range 9mm might be fun. Sold and miss my old cougar.

Only one I actually held was the Smith revolver, maybe that is telling? I do the revolver check out or an abridged one if I'm even remotely interested in a wheely. I've been finding you can totally eliminate like 2 or 3 out of 5 new wheel guns with this check out. I don't think we are done with labor and production issues seen with COVID and lockdowns etc.

Anyway, help me spend my money and decide!

I am thinking of selling my recently purchased Taurus 856, maybe a model 10, maybe hellcat (don't carry it much and that is what it was for).

Even pondering on selling a model 63. It's a no dash and I keep it in the old blue Smith box and don't shoot it much. Can't really replace it, don't want to accidentally dry fire..I'm finding with 22s usually I'm training kids or new shooters and my wranglers are great for that. Even if the drop or scuff it, who cares?

I also saw a few Beretta inox 21as that called my name a little. But at 341 idunno...those Ruger p series ugly ducklings were calling my name.

I haven't seen the metal frame p series for sale in ages.

On the Ruger p series, I had a p95 and p94 both stainless.

The p95 was every bit as accurate as my sig 226, probably my most accurate semi. Not sure if it was a fluke but I sure would rather have it back then the like 250 bucks I flipped it for at the time.

The p94 was really nice looking and I prefer the metal frame, but groups looked like shot gun spreads at almost any range. When that happens I like to get a handful of friends who are also shooters to try it and rule out me just sucking.

Nope, I didn't suck.

Not a fan of the "plus" guns, but even so the 2.5" L-frames are rare, so Id probably bite at $750.

2nd choice would be the P90 as long as it came with a couple spare mags- they were getting rare and pricey last time I looked a few years ago.

Exactly what I'm thinking, makes me feel like I'm on the right track! The p90 is more interesting to me than the 89, although I did end up with a random magazine that will fit a p89 lol.

I am most interested in the l frame.

I was looking up mags for the rugers and they aren't cheap. Also concerned about parts and not sure if Ruger services them.

I was reading some stuff about a few known parts that break on p90s and quick searches on finding spare parts are kind of cooling the ol heels on those two..

Grip panels, magazine floorplates and followers, and mainspring plugs- basically all the plastic bits.

Ruger will NOT service P-series guns any more. They sold all their remaining parts stock to Numrich years ago.

I'm not that big on the 7-shot .357 guns myself, but if you have kind of been looking for a 686...

I'd pass on the Ruger "P" guns personally, they are getting long in the tooth and I'd be worried about springs and whatnot. Both the gun's itself and the ability to acquire replacements.

Good to see a SD9VE at $280, that's closer to "normal" pricing. A good sign.

Ruger just discontinued support for the P89, so that’s out.

probably P90 support will end soon, as they’re similar vintage. I had a P90; it was a great gun, but was much improved with the Hogue grip.

686 is a good one, but full power Magnums out of that short barrel will not be fun. Maybe some light Magnum or +P 38?

They’re all too big to carry, though, and if it’ll be a range gun, you may as well have a longer barrel that will make it more accurate and handle recoil better.

The Smith auto is junk. Super heavy trigger. Not sure about the other one.

I’d probably go with the P90 from that group.
