I get a little irritated by.............

But then nobody is getting paid to write or moderate here, so we just co-exist and make the best of what we have, which is pretty special to someone like me given that I don't personally know in real life more than a handful of people that know anything about guns.
That's a lot of folks, and even the folks who do know a fair amount of other people who own guns don't see the sheer number of different guns they will here, nor have access to the wondrous source of knowledge here. Before stumbling onto THR by searching some gun questions on the web (A new thing for me), I only thought I knew a bunch about guns. Sure, compared to many folks, and certainly my buddies I did, but it was a drop in the bucket compared to here. I have learned so much here it is impossible to list it all.

Yea, sometimes we close stuff that some members won't agree with, just no way around that. But hey, a new thread can sometimes go better and get the answers that may have been lacking in the first one. And at the end of the day, it's just one thread among many on the internet.

You have to remember that for a lot of the new members this is their first time on a forum and they just don't know the basics, like the search function or the correct terminology to use it right. Some of us have been doing this for quite a while and are familiar with how these forums operate, know how to navigate them, and know that the sticky has most of the info they need.
Some are just lazy and don't want to search for the answer and just drive by, drop a ?, and swing by later to pick up an answer. Being nice and courteous to all makes this place what it is, so let's keep up the good work and help the newbies out.

We all know the best gun is the Glock, 9mm is the best round, and hand loads won't hurt you in court. End of discussion. :)

End of discussion. :)
Don't tell me it's the end of the discussion! I haven't added my expert opinion on this topic yet you <blankity, blank, blank>!!

Ok, I actually do have a short opinion on this topic. I think BobWright makes a valid point. But there are times when the best answer has been given, and given clearly. There are some posters here that once they've answered the question, there isn't really anything to add. But it's dependent on the poster's ability to understand the answer. I've said "See post #3" before. But I've also tried to give the same answer or slightly different answer in another form to help the poster understand.

Sometimes I get to the point where I'll scan a series of posts and all I see is " blah, blah, blah ... blah, blah ... blah, blah " and I know it's time to take a break from not just this forum, but any of the gun forums for a few weeks.

When I come back my head is screwed on a little better and those little gnawing problems, while still here, don't bother me as much.

YES 10000%!!! There's nothing worse than reading through a thread and then seeing "I think everything that needs to be said has been said. LOCKED.

The best forums I'm on only have moderators to help out with technical forum issues and they leave discussions open until they die a natural death.
With out question my pet peeve. If I've been away from the forum for a while I skim the page and check the locked threads first. They seem to be the most interesting. The "1/7 vs 1/8" threads get to go on forever.

At times a correspondent posts a question on one of the forums, anywhere from simple new man question to very advanced gunny. Then there is a follow up post with a simple answer to the question. This usually followed by several more posts, some good, some wordy. But then somebody says something like "Post # 3 answered the question already."

Maybe so, but then there are possibilities of further explanation or more questions arise. Seems to me if one is in such an all-fired hurry, they could just quit reading further? No need to try to silence correspondents here.

Bob Wright
I always thought the point of a forum was to have a open, radical, and generative conversation... as opposed to "answered in post 3" turning it into a question board. I personally like the tangents the OP can take in all directions, so long as the OP was fully addressed, or the alternative subject does not override the OP.

funny, I was reading a post on the 870 express jams on extraction from a few years back, that was locked because it had been concluded with something along the lines of ....theres no problem, its a one time thing, send it back.... stop buying ammo from walmart... The 870 issue is now well understood, and very widespread, but those looking for answers will see that page. Now if it could be updated, that could help a few people.

9x19 is much better than .45 ACP. I'm stating that. It bothers me when others argue about it.

Glocks are also perfection. It's science. No need to discuss.

This is my favorite thread.
GLOCK PERFECTION! GLOCK PERFECTION! THEY COULDENT SAY IT IF IT WASENT TRUE, I HEARD IT ON THE INTERNET! IM IN ALL CAP SO YOU KNOW IM RIGHT! (I like glocks :) )

I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE ARE YELLING ABOUT, BUT I KNOW WE ARE RIGHT BECAUSE WE ARE SHOUTING.

We should add a personal attack to really make our point...something about political party, or religion, or even race!

folks always have different points of views on a topic I think it is is in our nature to discuss and agree and disagree, just think of the pool of members here , lawyers, military,LE,hobbyist, weekend shooters, young and old and so on lots of different backgrounds and views/opinions.
One thing for sure is THR is a fantastic place for firearms, optic, reloading advise such a wealth of knowledge with folks willing to share and help, I have learned much about reloading and firearms on this site anytime I have a question I ask and get great advise for that I say Thanks,

If some didn't think their opinions are somehow "superior" to everyone else's, there would be no issues.

I think it would be hilarious if this was locked with the response "op's topic has been sufficiently covered."

I guess I am a hypocrite. I don't like it when some one says, "Not this again!" but always seem to enjoy it when somebody says, "Get out the popcorn!"

I've only been a member of another forum that was dedicated to a particular rifle design (it's not the AR-15). Nevertheless, although this other forum had very knowledgeable information, it was full of lewd, unprofessional behavior and poor language with a lot of off-topic commentary.
Heck, even the threads would be entirely unrelated to firearms.

I like THR because it's pretty disciplined. It's about firearms. Not what type of dog you like, not full of conspiracy theories (although some are interesting), or a constant barrage of political discourse.

Sure, every forum has armchair tactical warriors, but THR doesn't let them have a p****ing contest about who is the best operator.

THR is clean, courteus, and consistent. It is the first page I look for opinions and information for questions I may have. It has been the most useful forum I have come across.
