I finally recieved my Walther PP .32acp that I won on a online auction. I am very pleased with it overall. The seller stated that it was in "very good" cond. but it is every bit of excellent in my opinion. I love it when they understate the cond.:)

The only blueing wear is on the muzzle ends. The feedramp still has 100% of the blueing! The mag has almost no blue loss and the bbl under the slide is hardly marked at all. It looks like it was shot a few times probably less than a box and then carried for a short while in a holster.

When I bought it I thought I was getting one of the surplus ones that have been coming in latly but it is a commercial version and it looks better than the police pistols I have seen.

The SN# is:389xxx does anyone know the Date of Manufacture?

I will give a range report tomarrow night after I shoot it. In the mean time, here are some pics for you.

Excellent!

I picked up another stainless PPK .380 yesterday. The owner admitted that it jams, but it looks like the feed ramp is in need of some polishing. I'm going to be interested to see if it's as tight as the other one I had.

Blackhawk,

Before you spend a lot of wasted time polishing - replace the magazine with a new Walther magazine.

I have several PP, PPK and PPK/s's and have had numerous others from Walther. Every single one that has "jammed" did so because of the magazines.

Start with a new one and:

1) you have eliminated one potential problem
2) now have a spare that you may be able to correct.

Best.

Sweeeettt firestar :)

I've got a German-made PP in .22 and it's just about the funnest (I know, I know - it's not a real word) little pocket piece I own. Also have a pretty nice Interarms (U.S. made) PPK/S in 380. Hmmm... a .32 would be a nice addition to the stable. Enjoy it - you've got yourself a nice little gun there.

Range Report.

I just got back from my pistol league. I showed up a 1/2 hour early so I could shoot my Walther. I had a target that I shot set aside but it dissapeared in the range room somewhere. I think someone must have thrown it away when I wasn't looking. Oh, well.

I didn't shoot a ton of ammo through it tonight, just enough to get used to it and get a idea of how accurate it is.

I did my shooting at 25' from a rested postion (not quite a rest, just a gun case over a box of ammo). Every group I shot got smaller than the one before it but I ended up get a nice 1.5" group. I think it can do much better once the trigger gets broken in and I get more comfortable with it.

I was a a bit dissapointed in the accuracy but I may have been expecting too much from it. Also i only tried one type of ammo (Dynamite Noble). I have a feeling that once I am not holding the gun back, it will do 1" groups or less at 25'.

One thing that surprised me was, the recoil. I thought it was going to be a very mild gun to shoot. It wasn't. The Dynamite Noble ammo is some of the hotter stuff on the market and it tends to kick more than even Winchester Silver Tips. I have a Kel-Tec P-32 that doesn't seem to kick as much as this Walther. It also "bit" my hand in some spots which is why my groups weren't as good as they should have been. I wouldn't go as far as calling the recoil "nasty" but it did make for a slightly unpleasent shooting experience from the bench and I am not recoil sensitive when it comes to handguns.

The trigger is very heavy in DA, I estimate at least 15lbs. In SA it is still a little heavy but not unusable, I estimate about 5-6lbs. I did all my shooting in SA. I think it will improve a little once it wears in but I don't think it will lighten up much. The trigger is rather smooth in DA and SA with no gritty feel. The trigger feels like finely made machined parts but heavy, you can really feel quality.

All groups shot 4-5" high and 1-2" right.

All in all I was pleased with the gun but it didn't "WOW" me in the shooting dept. The fit and finish is so nice that I was expecting it to shoot like a target pistol, I think that is asking a lot for a gun that was never intended for this role.

Sounds good to me. I have one and it is a neat little handgun. Mine is not reliable at all, but it just might be the mag. Dispite the fact that it isn't reliable, I still enjoy owning and shooting it. I have plenty of other stuff if I need absolute reliability.

Make sure you rate the seller on the auction site so the rest of us know they guy is honest.

I forgot to add, there were no malfunctions of any kind. I even loaded up some clips and hand cycled them with no problems.

SteveA,

I think you're right on the money targeting the magazine as the jamming cause.

I spent a few minutes stripping and looking it over today, and you risk your thumb trying to unload the mag with just 6 rounds in it. The last 3 unloaded "properly" so I took the magazine apart and could feel stamping kerf on the inside of the lips. I reassembled and put a new round in as #6. Unloading it showed a pair of substantial scratches on the case. I'll F&B the magazine, and do the feed ramp polishing because it IS rough, then I'll bet it will feed like a champ.

This is a PPK/S and my other one was a PPK. The differences are astounding. I actually LIKE this one! :D

firestar - the recoil on the PP/PPK/PPK/s models are somewhat "snappy"... if you think it is excessive, you might check the recoil spring...it might have weakened over time (can i assume you have one of the french PP's)

all members of the family "bite". there is even somthing known as walther "tracks". it is where the razor sharp lower edges of the slide ride back over the web of your shooting hand.

most PP's have very heavy springs/trigger pulls in DA and SA. you could take a look at the wolfe's gunsprings

The problem with a Walther cutting the web of your hand between the thumb and index finger for me at least has been limited to the smaller PPK. I have the same problem with guns like the Kel-Tec P32. But the PP causes me no problems at all.

9mmepiphany,

I don't think the recoil is excessive, I was just surprised that it had any recoil at all. The springs seem very strong and almost new, I don't think this gun was shot much at all.

I don't have the French PP (Manhurian), this one has an Interarms marking on the right side of slide so it was imported between 1963-2000 according to Fjestad.

I don't have "ham hands" so I don't tend to get hammer bite or slide bite. It is close on this one but it really doesn't cut me just pushes the sharp edges of the tang into my hand a little.

i was lucky too, never been biten either...but it seems every other one i hand it to has. my .22 is german made and runs great as long as i feed it high-vel ammo.
