I hate carrying a pocket gun!!!

Sounds like you didn't clean it after the first 50 rounds, then fired another 15 several months later. If you carry a gun for defense, you really need to clean and lightly lube it after every single use.

Also, as others pointed out, flip your pockets out and smack the junk out... and get a pocket holster. Use some canned air to get the dust off every few days, and take it apart for cleaning about once per month or two even if you don't shoot it.

get a shoulder rig and wear a blazer over it, cut big enough to hide the holster. you get style points at work for "dressing up" as well.

Yeah, until wearing a blazer either becomes too hot or inappropriate for the business setting at hand, like when the boss tells you to relax and take it off over a "working lunch" or something.

If you're a developer, have you considered ankle carry for while you're at work?

How's he supposed to wear flip flops and shorts? :)

I wear cargo pants/shorts. The cargo pockets don't accumulate lint. That may help some. But it sounds like you need to characterize the problem more. If it dirties up and jams after 65 rounds, well, clean it before you carry it and you'll be able to empty all your mags before it jams.

This is an EXCELLENT point. I shoot a few magazines (up to a box of 50) out of my two P3ATs (each one) every so often and NEVER have a malfunction. I clean/lube them after the previous outing, but never even so much as dust them off in between range trips (no matter how long it's been) because I want to see how they (and the spare mags) will perform, should I ever need them in THAT condition. So, I crank off 30-50 rounds EVERY TIME with ZERO malfunctions. If it will do it then, then it will do it when I need it. Who really cares if it jams from getting dirty after 60, 70, 80+ rounds WITHOUT another clean/lube session? It's a last ditch pocket gun. They're not range "shoot all day" guns. If one seriously needs mag after mag in a small pocket gun...then they have MUCH bigger problems!

If you decide to carry a firearm (pocketable or not) that may imply some changes in dressing style (and state of mind as well)....the "nature of the beast".

I'm not that tall (I would say short..only 5,6) and I weight 195 lb..so I have some meat around my bones which may make things worse for concealed carry.

I have no problem whatsoever concealing my Kel-Tec P-11 in my pocket (Uncle Mike's pocket holster) in any social situation...from shorts and T-shirt to Tuxedo night...it doesn't print any more than a smartphone.

Few pointers:

- When I buy pants I always try to get the ones with the largest pockets, even if they cost more

- I bought some extremely light sport jackets which I can wear even in moderately hot weather, so I have the opportunity to carry on my waist even in summer (or in one of the jacket pocket)

- Even if you are a slim individual, with a nice "fluffy" sweater you should not have a problem concealing a small pistol like the LCP on your waist (I can hide my wider P-11 that way).

- Ankle carrying is another option if you buy the right pants...wide enough but not so much to look ridiculous like a die hard 70's nostalgic :D:D:D

- I wash my pants with the pockets inside out (already suggested by someone else)

- I have two Uncle Mike's pocket holester so I can wash one (inside out as well)
while carrying the other

- Everyday, when I'm at home (or in a hotel if I travel), I pull out the gun, take the mag out and blow it with a can of compressed air

- I clean the pistol regularly even if not used

- Even if my P-11 is not a range toy, I go through a box of ammo once in a while so I do not forget how the pistol shoot and I stay proficient.

You should not have any jamming issues that all if (hopefully not) the moment of truth arrives...

You cannot decide to put a pistol in your pocket and forget about it....:scrutiny:

Great points, saturno... I'm about the same build as you and carry all sorts of handguns. I stick with what I said earlier and the OP saying he can only pocket carry. HE IS LAZY and doesn't want to try other carry methods. From his very own first post.

OK. So I have a Ruger LCP. It's the only gun I can really carry comfortably

Get in there and give it a good detailing with Q-tips (actually, generic plastic-stick ones work better) and a can of air for the bits you can't reach
Go lighter on lube
Clean it more often
Clean out the magazine
Get a tighter holster? Perhaps a Kydex wallet-style one that covers more of the pistol?
Move to IWB?
Get a real gunbelt! (I like BeltMan best, but there are quite a few makers out there with comparable products)

I don't know what you are required to wear for work, but if you can wear slacks and an un-tucked short-sleeve button-down shirt, you can conceal quite a bit of pistol. I'm about your height, but a good bit more famine/drought resistant ... but for whatever it is worth, here's some pictures I posted right here on THR of a Walther PPS concealed in a fairly affordable holster that actually allows a shirt to be tucked in under the clips (I almost never tuck in, but it does work, and the company sells more discrete belt clips for those who feel they need them). If budget is a concern, Kel-Tec makes a pretty decent affordable 9mm in the P-9 and P-11, those are comparable to the PPS in size (The P-11 a bit thicker, if I remember right, and the P-9 a bit slimmer ... both about the same outline)

Bottom line - either you need to take better care of the pistol you are packing and get over the limitations of a itty-bitty deep concealment gun ... or you need to realize that you can pack quite a bit and still stand up to casual scrutiny.
I admit that the camp shirt and cargo pants were my UOTD for a long time before I started packing, so it was fairly easy for me to simply make an undershirt an "always" item and get a serious belt ... but in the end, nobody is watching, and nobody cares if you are packing.

How about Smartcarry? Won't pull your pants down, you can wear it with a tucked shirt, should cut down on some lint accumulation.

Back pocket would be better as you won't be as likely to get lint or other crap in the pistol. I use a wallet holster from www.concealcity.com and can carry no matter what I want to wear. For late Fall, Winter, & early Spring when long sleves & heaver clothing is worn I use a Belly-Band for my PM-9 or S&W model 60. This works for me, good luck finding what works best for you. LM

Ouch, some of you guys are harsh  OK so maybe I've been a bit lazy, but...

* Yes, I'm a programmer, no I can't wear slacks/shorts to work. Normally polo shirts, jeans, shoes. Shorts are a no-no... damn I miss Citrix

* No I would not get bonus points for dressing UP. I would get smart ass remarks all day long, and I would actually draw attention to myself.

* Good thing is... I work with A LOT of COPS, and my boss loves guns. Everyone in the office knows I carry, and so does every other person (carry that is)... to prove the point, 3 days ago, I was at my buddies desk stripping his Sig. Day later I was checking out other girl's 38 Special revolver, and before that, I showed another guy how to detail strip a Glock... all while other people were around, and they didn't even care that we were playing with guns. God I love my job! Yea, I'm a programmer, can you believe that...

* ...being a programmer, I drink a lot of cafe and/or other fluids... and we have not much privacy in the toilet, which I frequent 5+ times while at work... everyone knows what a pain in the butt it is to have to, you know, #1 or #2, with a pound or more of metal on you.

* Yes I do carry the LCP in a pocket holster.

* No I do not have a special gun belt. Maybe I should start with that and get a OWB holster for Ruger. Maybe I could carry my Kahr PM9 again. Hmmm.

Thanks for all the advice!

If you are squatting on a seat for a #1, you really need to take a serious step back and analyze what the heck is going on. :uhoh:

By the way.....I'm a programmer too....except I'm 5'4" tall. A nice Hawaiian shirt does wonder for covering a low profile OWB holster. My wife buys them for me for $1 at the local thrift store. :D Since I work at a nuclear power plant, we are prohibited from carrying on site.....but that doesn't preclude me from doing so the other 3 days of the week I'm not at work.

Edit: Yes....a PM9 carries very well in a very small holster. I have a High Noon holster for my PM9 that I would never part with. Put it on a quality belt, synthetic or leather, and it won't be going anywhere without you.

One other suggestion.

Try this cleaner lube:

http://www.eezox.com/gun-care.html

I have been using it for more than fifteen years. If you follow the directions it will not only dissolve all of the old oil/grease, it will leave a dry film behind that is an excellent lube and one of the best corrosion protectors available.

Lint, dust etc will not stick to the gun.

Neck Holster is another option...

http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=45

I have one of these for a little KelTec P32. Fantastic holster.

I've not yet procured one for my LCP and I'm not sure if I want the additional weight of the .380 around my neck. Nevertheless, Comp-Tac builds exquisite tension adjustable holsters for a reasonable price. $43 for the LCP model.

Here's another company's version for the same weapon:

http://www.themalabarfront.com/product_info.php?products_id=1503

Can't speak to this one personally; $40

Of course, you might have a chest hair problem. ;)

Small pocket autos, even the PM9 need to be cleaned after every range trip, they are just too tiny not to. Smart carry may be an option for you. A very lightweight revolver may be the best option if you are somewhat averse to cleaning your weapons regularly.

Just choose pleated front pants and shorts and go for painters jeans over regular fit. You will find that PM9 will be easy to pocket if you do that as well.

When you say fail to chamber a round did you mean while firing or loading? If when loading a lot of the small autos do that in the first 200 rounds or so and it can easily be avoided by properly sling-shotting the slide and not riding it home when charging your weapon.

I do this and only clean my Carry gun once a Month and not bothered with lint.

Very easy answer to remedy this problem. Snub nose 38 special revolver. In the pocket or in a ankel rig the revolver is more forgiving about lint and dust. Auto's buy a good holster. Both guns need cleaning now and then.

Have you thought about 5.11 tactical shirts? They have some nice button ups and even a undershirt holster.
