I hate reloading 9mm, how about you?

Whiners....all pistol cases are large compared to carburator parts that I have to deal with.

My dealings with 9x19 are simple, I trim the cases to 18mm and load then shoot in my EG Makarov :neener:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I just starting reloading 9mm and have to say that I sort of hate. Tiny components that don't like to stay still in my progressive press. If my powder dies is not perfectly aligned with the brass I crush cases. Putting that little bullet on that little case sucks too!

Give me .45 or even .40 any day of the week!

I do like the end result though!

Never mind the buckets of cold water thrown on your ideas. You make an obvious point, especially when manual dexterity declines. Maybe a bullet feeder is in your future.

I have considered a progressive for loading 223 but then its the case prep that is tedious, not the loading itself. That being said, unless you shoot 2000+ rounds a month I don't understand owning one of those things. Reloading pistol cartridges is therapeutic to me and I enjoy the process. I can do 150 straight walled cases in an hour with my Lee Classic Turret Press and never be aggravated. Try that for your 9mm.

I use Lee dies on a Dillon 550B, and for the most part 9x19 isn't really that much more effort than any other chambering. One of the secrets is that I use Lee powder-thru dies that give a decent bell to the case mouth for easy bullet seating, and I use Dillon sizer dies to reduce the effort and issues associated with sizing. (Lee and RCBS and Lyman sizing dies took much more force to use, and were less tolerant of case wobble in the shell plate.)

are you reloading on a progressive press ? do you have the right shell plate for 9mm I am loading9mm now ...well not this min now im typing...how is your timing on your press ..could a adjustment help....hope you figure it out ..9mm is easy to load

My opinion is that 40 and 10mm are easiest to reload, 9mm is tougher for the pistol calibers. I think its the difference of brass cases, not the size of the case. So many manufacturers with slightly different tolerances!
9 is also more challenging to load for accuracy with lead too!
But it beats stamp collecting!

Hi All,

I am reloading on my trusty Dillon 550B. I just installed a new primer slide as my old one had a worn out primer cup. I ordered just a new primer cup, spring and punch, but Dillon sent me a whole new assembly for free!

I have the correct shell plate on the machine. I don't use a bullet feeder or case feeder.

When I reload larger calibers, I normally guide the case into the seating die. I find on 9mm I have to guide the case into the powder die to avoid crushed cases.

I don't try to go too fast. Probably takes me 30 minutes to load 100 rounds. Hopefully I can get a little faster as I become more accustomed to loading this caliber. I've been reloading for about 14 years.

Thanks!

CB

I have no issues loading 9mm... Bullets are no different than the .357 I load and MUCH easier to handle than .223

I Load on a lee pro 1000 also.... have done the Bullet feeder but the smaller 115gr plated bullets tend to slip out too easy... I have just started doing 124gr bullets so may see if they work better

But with 100 cases in the case feeder I can BLAST out 100rds in about 20min, and thats a nice comfortable pace....

So i guess to each his Own:D

I have no issues loading 9mm. I like it when my handloads are twice as accurate as WWB for about 1/2 the cost.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

With copper jacketed rounds, I find 9mm quite simple. For some reason, 9mm hand cast have given me a challenge finding good accurate loads. Other calibers don't seem to be as picky.

Agreed!!

The only thing I dislike about loading 9mm is that my seating die seems to float around (varying loaded round lengths, likely due to differences in the brass), and my powder measure hates throwing small charges. It seems like I get some pretty decent variations, to the order of 0.8-1.0 / grain throughout a loading session. This is AFTER I put a baffle in it. There's also the cheap powder thrower+Titegroup (or H110) effect of it getting sticky.

This should not be read as a complaint, however. Reloading is reloading, and although .30-06 or .270 is my favorite, they are all enjoyable.

I only really know the 650, but if you are loading on a Dillon and have to "guide the case into the powder die", something is not right. I've never once guided a case anywhere in probably 50k rounds of 9mm on my 650. It should load just like any straight walled pistol case if your 550 is set up correctly.

I love love love loading it. Maybe I wont like it so much when I move up a caliber or two.

Im with another fella here in that I really do dislike 380 though.

My issues with 9mm loading comes from each of my 9mm pistols behave differently with cast bullets regarding OAL, profile, etc. for reliable feeding and chambering. Oregon Trail bullets 124 gr. gave me fits due to the bullet profile, etc. Still trying to slowly use up these bullets which I bought in 2008 due to the unavailability of everything else. .

FMJ 9mm or even JHP I have not really had a problem with reloading. However, I only reload 9mm enough to keep my hand in as I usually use factory ammo in this caliber unless it is unavailable or stupid expensive like the recent 2012-3 craze. I usually try to maximize my reloading bang per buck on those calibers with a wide differential on cost of reloading versus factory but keep my equipment/brass/bullets for popular rounds such as 9mm, 30-30 and 7.62x39 just in case.

Nah - I'm fine with it. Might be because I've loaded (far) more 9mm than anything else, but it doesn't bother me.

FWIW my press (Hornady LnL) also seems to operate smoother with 9mm. .45 ACP occasionally hangs when ejecting. .40S&W I've only done single-stage so I'm not sure on that, but it cycles silky smooth on 9mm.

Not me, I love reloading everything! Stop whining and pull that lever! Haha! Good reloading, catpop

I very much dislike loading 9mm. Nothing runs smoothly, either on my LCT or LnL. Don't shoot much of it either.
38 Super is an absolute delight to load. Runs like clockwork. 45 ACP ALMOST as smooth as Super, but not quite.
