wow, I have been to a number of forums related to various topics of interest to me, ranging from hunting, fishing, boating, truck/suv's, home improvement and others. However, i have never been to a site that is active as this one and full of such terrific information. Other sites may generate a few responses, sometimes as many as 10 over the course of a few days, but here, 10 posts show up in about 10 minutes. I've never seen anything like it. I'll need to learn more about who the members are, law enforcement or general public, but whoever you are, your passion for guns is huge. I appreciate the input so far.

I will look around more, but so far, i am not sure where to find information related to concealed weapons permit in Florida. What is involved, how much is cost, if it is annually renewable (which would be an expense and hassle), etc. I commonly carry 22 pistols, 22 rifles, a 308 hunting rifle, and misc shotguns, but that's only when going to/from my hunting camp. With the 380, i may look into a permit to carry on occassion. I'll likely never carry consistently, but at times, i'd like to have the protection, espec with the wife and a 6 yr. old.

Go to a good local gun shop. They can advise you on many of your issues and provide you with the application for a Concealed Weapons License. There is also a brochure from the Fla. Dept of Agriculture (the licensing agency) that will give you the official straight skinny on your questions. The gun shop may be able to provide you a copy, The Dept of Ag may send you one or if you know someone with a CWL, he/she got one with their license.

ABSOLUTELY!

davidd,

I agree, it is a GREAT forum :D :D , with so many knowledgeable folks, any question you may have will be answered.

Welcome and enjoy.

www.handgunlaw.us <-- more up-to-date than packing dot org, has much of the same info in a very easy to use format

http://www.gunlaws.com/ <-- publishes guides to state laws for about two dozen states. Their little pamphlet-sized book for FL is currently out of print, but the better option is still available: Gutmacher's Florida firearms: Law, use & ownership

Not trying to recruit from this forum, but you should also visit www.ar15.com. Click the "hometown" button, and then to the Florida forum. We have quite afew members from all over Florida and have a good bit of discussion about things within the state.

Welcome, the best part about this forum is the maturity:) and respect everyone has.

I have yet to read any insult or retaliation on this board...it's not very "high road".

Enjoy!

Welcome to THR!

THR is the only worthwhile forum on ANYTHING.

I've only been a member here for a short while but I read over THR every day and I am certain that I am smarter for having done so.

I would attribute about 30-40% of my firearms knowledge to this place and the awesome people who make it up.

Another good choice is www.graybeardoutdoors.com as they have a forum for everything under the sun.

That being said, I spend more time on here than anywhere else, by far. Very user friendly, very friendly people, and less bugs than other forums.

Florida Carry

Our local police department holds regular classes for obtaining the license and that service is FREE. Includes classroom instruction from NRA accredited instructors, demo guns (blown frames, 3 bullets in barrel, etc. for safety discussion), and actual firing of your weapon at the police range.

Check your local department. Even if they don't hold classes, they'll be glad to give you all the information you need to get your license.

Welcome aboard. We're a mixed bag here, from old geezers like myself to some really young folks looking for information and a place to talk about their favorite subject. We include collectors (like myself), some very serious paper punchers, and those who are more interested in the mechanics and performance of their toys, hunters, you name it.

Have fun and enjoy. Best regards, ---45Broomhandle
