...but no .45 ACP handgun. I rented a .45 at the range a while back, but for some reason I opted not to have them reseal the box. They will only let you use ammo purchased there with rentals (don't want someone bringing in bad handloads and ruining their guns, so I can understand), so it either has to come directly from them on that trip or it has to be sealed by them prior to leaving. Well, at the time I think I was planning on getting a .45, but I decided to get something smaller instead.
Now, I'm starting to look at those .45 rounds and think, "I need to get something to use these up with." I have $150 store credit with Cabelas, which means I can get a XDm for about $550ish. Unfortunately, I'd still have to wait a while to save up the discretionary funds to get it. The reason I would go XDm is because when I got my first gun (XDm .40 3.8" with full grip), someone at the range handed me an XDm .45, and I loved the way it shot.
The other option I'm considering is one I can get now. A .45 ACP semi-automatic handgun that's within my budget. It would need to serve the role of being a reliable handgun that eats .45. It doesn't need to be a carry gun (I've got a few to cover that) or an HD gun (I have my XDm 40C and my shotguns for that). Can you guess what gun I'm thinking for option number 2? If you guessed Hi-Point, you're right. After credit, it would be pretty cheap.
TL;DR: my options are save up for an XDm, which I would probably enjoy more, or buy a Hi-Point now. The purpose is just to eat up the .45 ACP ammo I have and to have fun at the range. What would you guys get in my situation?
