I'm currently at three now. Let's see...

Got my M91/30 and converted it into the PU sniper....
Got the M44 that I use to blow flames (and knock lights out of their fixtures at the range )
Got the Tula hex laminate cause it's kinda rare and in great condition (for 75 bucks! yep!

A buddy of mine just got a Tula (is that the one with the star & arrow?) Mosin from 193x with the octagonal receiver for $200; nice barrel/bore. How'd he do? Matching #'s, no pike.

Hex receiver and good bore...

Nuf said. That's a good deal. :)

I just bought a Valmet with a hex receiver and it also has a very decent bore. Its a Fin and was 280.00. Bore condition means a lot to me and I would gladly pay a premium to get a Mosin with a nice bore. I still need to get a M44. :p

Compare to what?

A M44 is like a M38 carbine except the M44 has a mounted bayonet.

Hey KC, what's something like "1931 91/30 tula hex receiver matching #s" go for? Thanks!

The one all the way to the left is a k98k nazi proofed 8mm mauser then we have 2 m 44 on shooter one unissued unshot . The one laying down is the 1931 tula hex receiver all matching #'s . The bore and barrel have been scrubbed back to shiney, unpitted and not counterbored I do not buy mixed serial # guns nor do I buy counterboared guns .

I don't think they will ever reach that value.

You underestimate the fiscal irresponsibility of our current government.

Of course, those would not be 600 2009 dollars...:D

How many guys are missing one from their collection ?

I sold one last year. I don't miss it in the least. I will probably sell the only other one I have. I won't miss that one, either.

Then you sir, really have no need to post in this thread.

The Mosin Nagant is a unique firearm, perhaps more steeped in history and blood than any other firearm in the world.

I don't think they will ever reach that value. The Russians made over 37 million of those rifles.
+1 The main appeal of Mosins, IMO, is that they're neat old rifles at a really great price. That's their niche and I think for the most part that's where they'll stay. I've got milsurp fever pretty bad, but whenever I'm in the gun shop I somehow never really feel tempted by the racks full of MNs. Could be because all my other rifles are hungry for ammo. Could be because I'm more of a shooter than collector.

we are not even in the same playing feild as a true collector .

The fact that you see it as a "playing field" makes me both laugh, and feel pity.

I am not a serious gun collector. Acquiring old stuff doesn't do for me what I thought it would, I guess.

I have known a few, though. They're not on the same playing field as a Mosin accumulator, either, believe me. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

Enjoy what you want. But don't let yourself believe it makes you hot ****.

A vault full of rare antique guns that are fascinating and have provenance doesn't make someone hot ****, either, and no serious gun collector I've met thought it did.

let us not forget, you have diff version sniper variants on the 91/30's, with a ps or pu scope, then you got laminate stock ones, then you have finnish made mosins, which are awesome, and then you have some remington made , if I
rmrmbr right, then you have some out there, with some killer collectible wood like blanket walnut and such...

I do own a MN 91/30 and for iron sites and being older than dirt it shot dead on at a 100 yds. Mosin's CAN and DO go for $600 or even more as long as its an exsniper or sniper. I'm no expert just interested in the popular rifle, it's TRUE a vast majority are rough, standard infantry weapon that will never go up in value. But specific ones were hand picked back in the day for their accuracy and tuned to be very precise shooters and converted to a dedicated sniper rifle. I do not know the markings and bolt shapes that would indicate that but I do know that if it has an ORIGINAL turn down bolt AND welded in plugs in the bolt lug run, thats where the scope mounts were replaced with plugs. Many of the snipers were converted back to standard rifles because of whatever reason. If you got a real deal original, untouched/modified good condition sniper, with or w/o a scope (hard to find now a days cuz they get snatched up so quickly (the rifle not the scope) than collecting them is a smart move. Some one who MAKES one or converts one, those are pretty much worthless too.
