Should the 115gr seem softer than the 124gr? (Or even the Federal 135gr "PD" Hydra-Shoks?) Everything seems about the same to me. I haven't tried the 147gr 9MM yet.

I think I got used to shooting .40 cals from my Glock 27 and now I can't tell what the 9MM's are doing. But I do enjoy the round. Chambers well. Fun to shoot. Accurate. (The 9MM DOES seem "softer" than .38 Special +P's from an *AirWeight revolver.)

Thanks,

Typically (and there are plenty of exceptions) the lighter the bullet, the more flippy it will feel as in there will be more of a tendency for increased muzzle flip. The heavier bullets tend to have less muzzle flip but more of a push back type of recoil. Also, it seems to me that the lighter bullets tend to generally be loaded hotter than the heavier bullets. I can't name a single 147 Gr +P 9mm load off the top of my head though I'm sure Georgia Arms has them available.

My Kahr P9 Covert doesn't feel much different shooting 115 Gr +P CorBons or 124 Gr +P Gold Dots but 127 Gr +P+ Rangers feel like something a little bigger is going on. Not more muzzle flip or increased backwards momentum, but just a bigger bang in general. Don't think I've ever tried 147 grainers in the Kahr.

In my Taurus PT99, I've shot pretty much everything available and I must say that there isn't a huge difference. Going from standard pressure 115 to 147 Gr bullets back to back in the same magazine, I know I can tell a difference but if I hadn't shot the gun in two months and you handed me the gun loaded with either 115 or 147 Gr bullets, I doubt I could tell the difference from just the recoil.

I can definitely tell the difference between 124-gr. and 147-gr. Federal American Eagle FMJ loads in a PM9. It’s slight but noticeable on such a light pistol but maybe not so much on a heavier weapon.

Thanks guys...

I think I'm going to stay with the 124gr Gold Dots. Maybe +P for carry. But I really don't feel any difference in the +P's. Maybe I'll carry some 135gr Hydra-Shoks, but Federal seems to be getting a bad reputation around here lately. The Gold Dots will probably be the ones. One guy at the closest gunshop says the 124gr +P Gold Dots are all he's ever shot in his PM9. His is the twin of mine. All black. I like that better. Prettier IMHO.
