I just joined the NRA

I am also a member, and I get the fantastic "First Freedom" magazine. Joining the NRA is worth every penny.

So I joined the NRA almost a MONTH ago and have heard nothing from them, no membership letter or card, nadda!!! Anyone ever known the membership to take this long

Yes. I think they process and mail in batches, based on what I've been told and my experience upgrading my membership.

If you need a membership number right this minute to join a range with a mandatory membership policy you can call them and ask them to look it up.

Good. Now if every other gunowner would do this, these anti bills would be DOA.

Awesome. They are the reason we have our guns.

Remember, anything the liberals hate is probably a good thing...and liberals HATE and FEAR the NRA.

One of the reasons I became a life member:D

My main objection to the NRA's stances is this "we give them an inch, they'll take a mile attitude". I waitied till I was in my 40's to get my pistol permit -including the 9 month wait, fingerprinting, interviews, mental health checks ad nauseum that is required in New York. I have absolutely no problem with going through this because it was required where I live to do so and I can only carry under strict circumstances.

Do you understand that the situation you live in isn't either the way it is in a good portion of the country, nor the way it was supposed to be? Would you still have no problem if you could excercise your rights without health checks, interviews, etc.?

Worse Things

They may not be perfect, but there is this:
  • they're not working to take your guns away
  • they are working to secure gun rights
  • they are working to foster marksmanship and learning
Consequently, I'd say there are worse things you could do with your money.

Heck, I blow more than that in a month on food I probably shouldn't eat.

If you're not with the NRA yet, go ahead and sign up.

There are other organizations worth supporting, too.

McDonald's and Wendy's are probably not looking out for your gun rights in any sense of the word, so you could just direct some of your fast food bucks to people who are at least trying.

I did.

I have no problem with the NRA's stance...if we DO give an inch, the antis WILL gain a mile.

Think I am joking? Look at what happened in Brittain and Australia.

The antigun crowd wants to take EVERY LAST GUN THAT YOU OWN! EVERY LAST ONE. :banghead:

This gun is too accurate..
This gun is too little
This gun shoots too many bullets
This gun is too innacurate
This gun is "unsafe"
This gun is scary looking
This gun is used by terrorists
This gun is in a "military caliber"
This gun can "kill everyone in a room without having to aim."
These bullets are "armor peircing"
This gun is plastic and can "go through a metal detector"
This gun was used in the military.
This gun shoots to fast.
This gun shoots too far.
This gun could "shoot down a plane"
This gun does not have a locking device.
This gun is not a "smart gun"
This gun is too loud
This gun is too quiet

You pushed your wife in 1978 so YOU cant have a gun.

You took a leak behind a bar in 1997, were convicted of indecent exposure and are now a "registered sex offender", so YOU can't have a gun.
You have to go this "training class" held once a year, 100 miles from your house and pay $200 or YOU can't have a gun.
The chief of police does not like you and won't issue your permit so YOU can't have a gun.
We think you are a terrorist because you are on our "watch list" so YOU can't have a gun.
You let your firearms ID card lapse while on a business trip, so we stopped buy and TOOK ALL OF YOUR GUNS. Now YOU are a "fellon" and can't have a gun.
You took your kid to the range and let him shoot a gun. Now we are going to take your kid from you, and all of your guns because you are a "bad parent".
You talked about guns at work, that's scary. Your employer is going to fire you and the po po is going to charge you with making "terroristic threats" AND take all of your guns. Oh yeah, your going to be placed on the "terrorist watch list" because you must be one of those militia nuts.
You have demonstrated "no need" for a gun, so YOU can't have one.

Where does it end?

It doesn't end until, I repeat, until EVERY LAST ONE IS GONE!!! GONE FOR GOOD into the blast furnace and NO ONE, save for police and the military can have a gun.

Congrats on joining! As others have said the NRA is the biggest group out there and IMHO numbers are the only thing the politicians care about. We need as many members as possible.

But you left out "This gun has no military application."

Used to outlaw sawn-off shotguns -- Miller, if I remember right.

god for you!

The NRA is not perfect, no large organization is, but they understand how to play the political game. They are not grassroots, but while grassroots organizations may make headlines, they do not generally get to far on capitol hill. The NRA while compromising more than many would like, and as mentioned certainly not perfect is our best ally. If more gun owners like you would join, the NRA would have to compromise less because it would have more political weight, but most people just dont get it. I am glad one more person has got it though!

Thanks for increasing our numbers!!!!
